2024/25 Relegation Thread

If he wasn't a good fit at Chelsea with that squad allowing him to play any style he wanted - he certainly isn't a good fit for this Everton team.

Brighton fans were booing him at home in his last season there.

He had 30 games at Chelsea. I thought it was a terrible fit from the start. He never walked into a current successful side. Thats why they took the punt on him as a coach. Again, Chelsea wouldnt think of employing Dyche to mop the toilet floor.
The fact remains undeniable that Potter completely changed the whole approach style and ethos of Brighton from Chris Hughton. and if it hadnt had worked Brighton wouldnt be a team right now that can go to play any team in the prem and hold their own.
That came through coaching mentaliity.

That's not a fact mate. That's your opinion.

If we're talking facts...

Again. He took a team that finished on 40 points, and with investment, finished on 41 points and then 41 points again. He'd have been long hounded out of Everton by then.

His third season there he earned 3 extra points on what we earned last season.

Points wise then - worse than Dyche.

You talk style - he had to defend himself from their fans booing him that final season;

His team also had a big problem scoring goals.

Putting him into this Everton team now wouldnt be wise. I can't think of a worse choice now.

No it is a fact. I remember brighton under houghton. They hardly went over the halfway line. You're banging on about points. Im talking about coaching and laying down some foundations.
Potter started the mentality of how Brighton are on the pitch now. It certainly wasnt houghton lol.
you'll defend dyche till the cows come home i get that. But it borders on delusional at times.

Banging on about points? Points. Yeah points. We need them. *Glances at the thread title*

brighton got their highest ever points and goals tally in the premier league in his first season. If thats where you want to go. It wasnt where i was.
I originally replied to your post about potter and dyche as coaches. The way you brushed what potter did from chris hughtons side under the carpet i couldnt let slide.
we're going down a cul-de-sac now but i will just emphasize the point that no club in the solar system with an ounce of ambition or style would appoint Sean Dyche. Its why he was at Burnley for 10 years and why he ended up at rock bottom desperate Everton.

Teams that leak goals go down. We’ve tightened up considerably since the first four games. If this back 5 can stay fit we’ll stay up no doubt in my mind. The issue is we’ll probably never be comfortably away from worrying about it because of this pop gun attack. When Calvert Lewin goes through he seems to consider it a nice surprise if he sorts his feet out just to get a shot on target. I’m growing tired of his grinning ‘wasn’t that close’ look every time he misses yet another one on one.

Funnily enough Dyche’s Burnley went down in 2022 because they couldn’t score and not because they leaked a lot of goals. They conceded the 2nd least in the entire bottom half, and yet got relegated.

We had 27 shots yesterday.. that's a lot from a team who's manager who just wants clean sheets and 0-0s.. our forwards are incompetent simple as that.. our defence is very good infact since the start of October we've conceded least in the league let in 4 goals in 8 games..
Hopefully we'll get a few forwards back from Injury soon.
Yes but of those 27 only 5 were on target, that's the more pertinent bit. Booting the ball in the general direction of the opposition goal doesn't mean much to me.

We do have garbage forwards, but the fact that in almost 2 years at the club Dyche hasn't improved Beto or DCL one iota should tell you how utterly incapable he is of coaching effective attacking side of the game. It's why his only path-to-points is built around 11 behind the ball, defensive football with the hope we can somehow nick a goal along the way. Dyche 101.

My point is that 27 shots isn't what you'd expect from a team who's manager has them set up for a 0-0.. most of the shots were silly but not totally outrageous.. the fact remains we got into shooting position 27 times.. so we are getting into advanced positions.

Southampton have started confidently and the loveables defence have incurred two early yellow cards too.

It would be the most Everton thing ever for them to lose to a direct rival of ours today.

I think we are more likely to finish above a points deducted Man City than Palace or Wolves tbh.
I was thinking about the poor run of results for City. Could it be that they have a decent idea of the level of points to be deducted and they have taken on a ‘what’s the point’ mentality towards this season
