2024/25 Relegation Thread

Funnily enough Dyche’s Burnley went down in 2022 because they couldn’t score and not because they leaked a lot of goals. They conceded the 2nd least in the entire bottom half, and yet got relegated.

We had the 4th best defence in the whole league last season. After a poor start in the alst 8 games we’ve conceded 4. Of course we need to score more which is why we’re in the bottom half, but if this back 5 stay fit and carry on anything like the whole of last season or the last 8 games (e.g predominately no Michael Keane) it’s very unlikely we go down with those defensive numbers.

I was thinking about the poor run of results for City. Could it be that they have a decent idea of the level of points to be deducted and they have taken on a ‘what’s the point’ mentality towards this season

I think it’s more losing Rodri, ageing players and mediocre recruitment for the last couple of years. If they are hit by 50 points or something though, then their current form could come in handy.

Not sure if anyone else was really interested in taking the job when he was hired. He was a cheap option when we were short of cash. He took Burnley up to the PL and into Europe. A lot of teams have come up and had a high finish but slowly dropped away and were replaced by another club that went through the same process. He showed he was very eager to take the job knowing the position we were in and the decision to hire him worked for the first 18 months. This season has been a disaster, and could get even worse between now and the new year, but at least we don`t have him tied down past the end of this season.
He was hired because he was unemployed and we didn't have to pay compensation to a club, and because he was willing to do it for about half the money Bielsa was said to have wanted - I'd be pretty 'eager' to take a £12.5m contract offer (plus bonuses) too!

The fact that BK wanted Dyche and Moshiri wanted Bielsa should tell you the absolute disconnect at the top of the club and is a prime example of why we've been a mess of a club.

I don't subscribe to the "he once finished 7th so he must be good" argument. The multiple relegations and narrow relegation misses say more about his career, especially as it's a repeating theme and 7th placed finishes are not (Di Matteo won a UCL in less tries that Pep or Klopp but doesn't make him better). The end of Dyche at this place cannot come soon enough - perhaps Santa will give us all an xmas gift if we're lucky?!

That counts us out.

if santa liked us mate.

starting from united away to new year’s day

we will be the one giving gifts of 3 points to all those fixtures

We had 27 shots yesterday.. that's a lot from a team who's manager who just wants clean sheets and 0-0s.. our forwards are incompetent simple as that.. our defence is very good infact since the start of October we've conceded least in the league let in 4 goals in 8 games..
Hopefully we'll get a few forwards back from Injury soon.

We scored 19 goals from open play last season. To put that into context.
Nottingham Forest scored 41 from open play
Crystal Palace 47 from open play.
Brentford 41 from open play.
Bournemouth 40 from open play.
Ive not even listed clubs in the top 8.
This season so far. 6 from open play. Ipswich are currently 10 goals from open play. Is there a trend here that other sides seem capable of almost doubling the amount of goals from the coaching style of the manager. I dunno.

I have no doubt that lack of open goals is down to two factors…..1. The quality of player and 2. The lack of a plan in transition/attack which is down purely to the manager and coaching staff. We can’t change all of the players but we can change the manager if needed.

My point is that 27 shots isn't what you'd expect from a team who's manager has them set up for a 0-0.. most of the shots were silly but not totally outrageous.. the fact remains we got into shooting position 27 times.. so we are getting into advanced positions.
Well when we get a competent manager who can do some of that modern coaching malarky (and perhaps a half decent recruitment team to find us better players) we might just be able to put the ball in that rectangular thing with the net from time to time 🤞

The system the manger sets us up in. We are too defensively minded. Our attacking players spend the majority of the match tracking back to our own corner flag. When we win the ball back it’s than an 80 yard dash to get back up the pitch.

By the time they get the ball in the attacking third they are knackered. This then leads them doing nothing with the ball or then maybe having a shot with a tired leg that goes nowhere.

Look at Liverpool playing now. How many times do you see the likes of Salah and Gakpo tracking back to their own corner flag? Hardly ever. They stay up the pitch and then full of energy when the attack develops.

The most "Everton, that' scenario sees the RS win the League in the same season as we go down...in our last ever year at Goodison. And one thing Everton is VERY good at, is fulfilling predicted 'Everton, that' scenarios.

I disagree with that. If Leeds had hired him in Jan 2023 they'd have stayed up comfortably, Leicester aswell. He inherited a mediocre squad that had just sold Gordon and hadn't replaced him after the botched Danjuma saga.

On the final day he had to play Gray as false 9 and change the formation due to no fit full backs and play Garner and McNeill as wing backs, luckily it worked.

Last season with all the potholes he did well. However that long winless run in the winter was a warning and now 12 months on back in that sort of mindset of hardly winning a game with a very tough run ahead.

I suspect he'll get the next 3-4 but he needs to be removed soon after otherwise could be firmly stuck in the bottom 3 by the time 2025 chimes.
Who knows what could/maybe/might have happened if Leeds or Leics hired him. Had they have stayed up, who knows if they'd have got rid of him straight away like in pursuit of a modern coach who could take them forward. We cling on to Dyche because better-than-18th is all the club currently cares about. Hopefully TFG get rid of him on day one and we give ourselves the best shot at putting points on the board in the second half of the season.

Can't recall their keeper having to make a great save from all those shots.
They're shooting from outside the box when in good position to do something useful cos they have no idea how to actually create good chances

They got relegated because they stupidly sacked Dyche mate, and appointed a novice. That was total stupidity.

This might sound bad, but I watched is at Burnley away that season, and it was obvious which players would be relegated. We massively dodged a bullet with that.
