6 + 2 Point Deductions

“It is of critical importance that the Premier League is able to enforce its rules consistently to maintain the principle of fairness. The League will now consider what further action it can take to ensure this is the case.”

The PL admitting that this ruling prevents the consistent and fair application of the rules (whether you agree with the rules or not). Interesting, and insane.

We were given a punishment in a season following the one where a breach occurred. No reason points can’t be given back in a completely unrelated season either then? Obv won’t happen but still…

They freely admit that whilst they stand by their rules, there are situations where they can be breached but the PL is legally banned from applying them.

Thought talk of our PSR nonsense was almost over. We got royally shafted, and this just now means we were even more shafted than we thought we were at the time. The sport is a total mess, made even worse by the fact that 90% of the matches each weekend are absolute crap to watch.

The prize money difference was us not getting a winger or whoever else in to strengthen as well.

Can't remember now, but did we admit to breaching?

If so, wouldn't that have a bearing on any future action.

We admitted to a breach of the rule, yet the action would be that the rule was invalid as it couldn’t be applied equally to all.

Leicester committed a bigger breach, for the same financial year we got an 8 point deduction for.

Now the PL doesn’t have jurisdiction to judge 5 clubs in the league on a three year cycle - also meaning the PL can’t and never could apply the rules as written equally and fairly for all.

Not that we will do anything - but I think we have a case here for compensation as the rules can’t be applied to all the clubs fairly and equally because the PL doesn’t have jurisdiction.

As far as I can see the rules don’t apply to five clubs in the league in a 3 year cycle for the last financial year to June 24 - Forrest, Bournemouth, Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich.

Thats more than a quarter of the league!
I don’t think today’s ruling goes that far.

Basically all it states is that the league you are in on the final day of your accounts is the one that can bring the charges. In most cases that will be the “new” league as most clubs FY end is June 30.

So for example Leicester were a PL club again on June 30 2024 so could be charged by the PL for the three year period up to that date. I don’t think Leicester get to have it both ways.

They could still get a deduction this season (as could all 20 clubs).

So does this indicate - that PSR doesn’t apply to any club who have been in the championship in a three year period - basically saying the PL has no jurisdiction to apply rules to anything that occurred outside the PL.

The practical implication kind of kills PSR though. As teams can and will say it's not a fair playing field.

Also look, promoted teams can now basically have carte blanch to spend what they want. So good luck trying to then explain that others can't spend.
