6 + 2 Point Deductions

The more the PL pushback and use their client journalists, (the latest one being going after Burnham) the more I feel that we aren’t getting a single point back.

There’s nothing they can do if the appeal is successful. It was the independent commission that gave out the points deduction, if this independent appeals panel decides we have valid grounds to get the points back then we’ll get the points back.

True but it reinforces a wider undeniable view of the pathetic attempts by the PL to cover up their corruption.
In their ideal world, the news would break and they manage the media to cover up the story and brush it under the carpet and everyone forgets about it however the more it goes on and people like MPs cover it up, the more likely unfriendly investigative journos will start asking questions and the blow back for the PL will be worse than if they held their hands up and admitted a “procedural mistake” offering a fine and a transfer ban. Problem is when they double down as they are, censor fans as they have on Sky etc then they’re loosing their off-ramp to minimise the long term damage this will do to their brand.

Interesting also how the Sky sports app newspaper round up contains no points deduction articles considering the range of articles pro and con across the broadsheets.

I am actually surprised its took till friday to put it in, if thats the day we are doing the appeal. Thought we may have already have had it in, I Suppose and hope that the longer we have took, the more stuff we should have on the appeal - The different panel stuff was also said about a week ago, but then again we probably wont know till they put up the report from the appeal
Like people doing exams, always stay till the very very end. I would hope Everton have used this time to speak to the best lawyers in the land and cement why the 6 points presented weren’t actually taken into consideration, however two of the main crux’s should be:

1) explain the login of giving the biggest points deduction the league has ever given when other teams haven’t had them?

2) why was a rule written to punish only Everton, without the other 19 clubs voting for it to be in place, and why was this implemented during the investigation?

I think just them two points gets us off the hook. That and also telling the new comission that the previous comission had a guy from West Ham on it.

Wouldnt surprise me if were out of the relegation zone and looking safe when the decision is made from the appeal and they go ok we will remove the points but you've got a transfer ban for 12 months.

One way or another they will want to see us suffer from the punishment.

We still have the compensation claims against us, just to show you CAN be tried for the same offence twice..

Got my response from the DCMS although it was only their 'ministerial support team' and so whilst my email has been shared with officials within the DCMS the ministerial officer response was this:

Your concerns have been shared with officials within the Department for Culture, Media and
Sport. However, the Premier League is responsible for implementing Financial Fair Play rules
and it is right that it takes action to ensure that clubs abide by them. In the case of Everton,
there is an ongoing legal process and we are unable to comment further.

Despite the global success of English football, far too many clubs have experienced significant
financial distress in recent years. This cannot continue and we are setting up a new
independent regulator to put fans back at the heart of football and help to deliver a sustainable
future for all clubs.

I honestly dont see how anyone can sue us, surely if one club can sue us then they all can especially teams we beat that season or took points off.
They could say if we never got beaten by Everton then we would of finished 2 places higher which is a few million quid.

I dont see this happening at all, their beef should be with the PL not us.

The fact that they said that there was no point in fining the club as the owner is wealthy.. I feel is one is where we should also go for... disregarding a punishment because someone has money not very ethical that.

The tone is right in that response for me, but also lends itself to a real fear that the financial bubble is ready to burst, the cash cow is under pressure and this is filtering down to many clubs, most of which aren't yet under scrutiny.

Personally I do see a real shift in the not so distant future and maybe a "reset" is due, a fair and level platform that treats all teams the same is the only way forward, I sincerely hope we are one of the triggers for this.

Definitely. The owner was not charged or accused of anything. Its like saying no point giving you a points penalty because your team is really good.

Interestingly I read this earlier regarding another PL club meeting where they are discussing the allocation of funds to lower league teams…

“Sky News claims that a number of clubs outside of the big six of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are unhappy with the negotiation of the New Deal and how much would have to be handed to the EFL, with the report claiming that one club in the bottom half of the table has already raised the subject of potentially having to borrow money to pay its share of the money owed.”

Wonder who the one club needing to borrow money is?

Isn’t it ironic that the PL is making plans which are reckless and unfunded that further undermine the P&S of the 14 clubs outside of the “sky six”?
Eventually the gravy train will run out of bisto….
