6 + 2 Point Deductions

lol lol lol

Surely the lawyers would be all over this as completely improper - so we can receive an in-season sporting penalty for financial crimes in both the 2019-22 and 2020-23 rolling periods in the same sporting season?

Even stronger evidence of why the timing and way in which this has been managed is absolutely chaotic and flawed. I actually sympathise with the clubs who claim we should compensate them as any sporting advantage happened in the previous years (clearly the guilty party here though is the PL for not dealing with it at the right time). What sporting advantage are we getting in 23/24 from overpaying Tosun, Player X etc. in previous seasons?

I don't know what the answer is (as if the clock is reset after a punishment some teams would no doubt exploit this) but the idea that using the same overspend for possibly 3 times cannot be a fair system, particularly when the punishment will cost in financial terms whether it is a fine, points etc. The only actual appropriate deterrent is transfer bans as that would stop the behaviour that has been found to be against the rules.

the oldest period I think was the averaging of Covid years, so it would be a 2 year loss. Hopefully that makes a difference. I just hope that they haven't been disregarding the Stadium interest, or whatever they did, since.
Slight worry in that the accounting period closed before the ruling came out. Can obviously still change provisions and calculated estimations right up until accounts are audited and submitted to companies house, but you’d have to say any changes in accounting policy/significant estimations that we make since hearing the commissions findings will blatantly be viewed as attempts to massage the figures to stay under the limit. And that would be true.

Hopefully the trend continues from the last accounts where the losses are much reduced, they should be. Interest costs will be an issue, on all forms of funding not just stadium specific loans. Where I am they more than have quadrupled and we have hugely favourable terms.

Actually might be closer than it seems because while the Covid seasons will have had the biggest losses in the statutory accounts (unadjusted), those will be the seasons that all the massive Covid adjustments we made will be attributed too, so in terms of the PSR loss, they won’t have been that bad. Not all about lost gate receipts, all the lost player value nonsense.

The Gordon sale being pure profit should help, but there will be whatever we paid FL and his entourage offsetting it.

Should have delayed the board departures a bit longer, if they received stupid severance payments………

Interesting that there is an article about clubs still playing players who have been accused of sexual/coercive offences on the BBC today.

It talks about a 'player X' but not our player X (I think most will know who they are talking about), it does briefly mention that Everton suspended one of our players when accused, but fails to link that in to the mitigation argument re our current woes.

It reads as though the FA will only suspend if the player accused is seen as a risk to children or vulnerable adults, although one of the women quoted talks about a suicide attempt when she saw the player still playing. The fact that we seem to be the only ones to have been affected by this should not be ignored in the appeal (I would build a 'perfect storm' of negative events outside of our control argument).
Aside from the disgraceful treatment of the potential victims by the pl in their handling of this, it could be argued that any team, allowed by the FA/PL, to field a player under investigation whilst we were denied that opportunity with player x (even though we did the right thing) has a distinct, measurable sporting advantage over Everton and not some hypothetical, inferred, mystical sporting advantage that we supposedly benefited from that clearly didn’t exist.

It’s an absolute joke, and I hope just one small line in the myriad of reasons why we have appealed the joke of a punishment.

The inconsistencies in treatment between members/clubs in the same division/organisation should be this PLs downfall.

Make no mistake about the intent of that 10 point deduction: that was what they calculated would put us down.

There's no accident about that. There's no scientific justice formula.

They want us out of their league.

Not saying your right or wrong ..

But why do they want us out of the league so badly?

But the Covid seasons with their deductions stay on there and the 18-19 pre-Covid season drops off, taking 112m loss with it.

Given the wage trimmings and the Gordon sale etc I can’t see how 22/23 wouldn’t be a massive improvement on 18/19, more than enough to take us back under the threshold.

Wednesday: Everton set to appeal their 10 point deduction by Friday taking all the allocated time to prepare their appeal.

Thursday: The three clubs suing narrative is back now along with Everton could be set to go over P&S again.

It really is just the mainstream media doing everything they can not to paint us in a positive light. The positive should be getting us all over sky, the newspapers etc with how the appeal could look. Instead it’s ‘quick, we need a story so we don’t have to run Everton’s appeal, how about Everton due to breach ffp again’.

It’s just everyone ganging up on us now. The Premier League and everyone involved with them such as Sky have decided Everton have to go this year. That’s it. Even if we start to win some games they will do everything they can to keep us in the relegation zone. It’s been two years in the making. As soon as we go down, they will introduce new P&S rules which will improve the 105m threshold. This will allow everyone other than Everton to now be over this figure. It really is becoming us vs everyone now. There needs to be banners at everyone game and the booing and actual protests need to go on all game. Ten minutes for each Premier League sponsor.
