6 + 2 Point Deductions

Newcastle has been able to spend in the short term by virtue of the fact their previous spending under Ashley was so low. They had that capacity to exploit. But that's time limited.
They've also spent their money well by signing good players in the positions they needed them, and got a manager in who managed to get decent performances out of players who were poor previously, at least until their injuries hit recently.

You're going round in circles davek.

If your contention is they used their window to their advantage and built a squad that is capable of generating more revenue, then certainly the opposite is true of us: we blew our window spending big on mid-table players and mid-table managers and missed our opportunity.

If someone rich comes in and takes us over, they'll recapitalize the balance sheet, interest expense will be gone and revenues will be going where they should be-the football operations. The stadium opens, we should gather more revenue from that without that hitting our P&S calculation.

That's the reset we need, and we won't get from 777.

Incompetence is why we are where we find ourselves. Forget FFP, we should be in the Championship given the Benitez and Lampard blunders, which were just the final nails in the coffin after years of mismanagement. We're still paying guys who can't get a game in the Championship 70k/week in 2023. It's a catastrophic failure of leadership.
"Forget FFP". Its there. And its there the a reason that I've already established.

It's arbitrary and it's designed to stop a club challenging the elite. Newcastle would have spent like Chelsea and City did by now.

FFP is a restraint on a club. It's policing is confusing and it's penalties completely subjective.

How you can defended it after what;s happened to this club is beyond me.

Quite. But we did somehow managed to spend upwards of half a billion quid, with the only real quality being Richie, Pickford and now maybe Branthwaite, to show for it. We'd have done better getting supporters to do a half time draw on the pitch on the final day in 2015, picking players' names out of a hat and just buying them. Even when the rs were throwing money around late 90s to mid 00s, amongst the dross they'd come up with gems who'd stay for 6/7 seasons and play most weeks. Most of our signings from 5 years back are now nowhere to be seen.
That has no bearing on this question about FFP.

The main headline on the Mail's sports pages is that the 777 takeover is unlikely to be approved before Christmas and that we will therefore likely face administration.... and another large points deduction.

How likely is this?

If they put us into administration it will be an outrage because its not that we don't have the money, the owners could easily cover it, it's the face they won't allow them to do it !! It's why we are in this mess in the first place.

At no point did I defend it. It exists and needs to be followed, that is the reality. Don't put words in my mouth.

The policing isn't confusing, it is inconsistent.

The penalties are subjective yes.

It's effectiveness is completely questionable, and frankly the PL shouldn't be the one enforcing it as that entity is completely impotent.

"Its effectiveness is questionable, its subjective and inconsistent"...but it needs to be followed.

What?!

This isn't true though though really is it?

Whilst we've spent a lot of money, we've received big money for Lukaku, Digne, Stones, Richarlison, Iwobi, and Kean. We've also bagged transfer fees for many others. Vlasic, Barkley etc.

Also, if you think about it, we have actually improved in our recruitment strategy. Much of the damage was done in that dreadful Walsh/Koeman spell. And contrary to popular belief we haven't flushed all the money down the toilet. Here's a breakdown and rough estimate of our current playing asset value.

Feel free to disagree with any figures here, but these are based on my own honest opinion, and if anything, I'll try to be conservative.

Pickford - £45m
Patterson - £12m
Tarkowski - £12m
Branthwaite - £60m
Mykolenko - £30m
Keane - £3m
Godfrey - £9m
Mcneil - £30m
Onana - £50m
Garner - £25m
DCL - £20m

That's £286m, and I've not included Beto, Chermiti, Gueye, Gomes, Young, Harrison, Coleman, Danjuma, Holgate and Dobbin for various reasons that should be apparent.

Garner would fetch more than 25.. add 10 million in my opinion, he's young, English and been putting in decent performances..

Its Matt Hughes. The tedious bore cant help himself on a weekly basis, regurgitating some negative non story.
The lad needs help. He also needs ignoring.
