6 + 2 Point Deductions

No idea where the £8m came from; not heard of that till now. We signed the player from Spurs, on 2 year contract, with us paying Spurs £10m every 20 games he played.

So most likely he will be a free agent next summer.
It was in the Sunday Times and repeated elsewhere.

Doesn't make sense to me either. As I said, maybe Spurs believe they can embarrass Everton into paying a fee rather than risk getting a reputation for not playing ball that will put off other clubs constructing similar deals. 🤷‍♂️

The “ £8 mill” was Spurs’ response to us asking to renegotiate the deal. , they’ll drop to 8 mill but want it triggered in fewer matches . We said no.

Why would any club pay a fee they dont have to when both clubs signed the same contract?

It’s now so late in the day that the “ Out of contract” situation dominates. If we want him and agree a say 2 year contract , we won’t play him and give him a decent wage as we‘ve saved £10 mill. If we play him , pay £10 mill he can still go elsewhere if he gets a better offer. So little point in playing him , unless we somehow believe he’s our future and he’s staying.
It's a strange one.

We're within our rights to just let his career stay on ice until the season's end. We tried to get him a future in Turkey. I don't think we owe him or Spurs, tbh.

Spurs are/were seeing if we would blink first. Knowing our situation and presumably desperate to play anyone with a bit of quality, they assumed we would simply have to play him and they get the full 10m.

Hopefully things have swung in our favour in that regard and they see we don't actually need him at all. If they want any more cash, they'll need to renegotiate.

In reality, the chances of him making 7/8/9 (I can't remember how many more games he would need to play) are slim anyway, so we won't be paying spurs a penny more whatever the terms.

Exactly.

Here's the gist of the Times article from another source:

Everton reject chance to change Dele deal

The deal to bring Dele from Tottenham was an unusual one. Initially, it was a free transfer, but Everton will have to pay £10m once he reaches 20 appearances for the club.

However, with the attacking midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and Everton reluctant to make any payment due to their ongoing financial concerns, both parties are keen to restructure the deal so the 27-year-old can get his career back on track.

According to The Times, Tottenham have approached Everton to reduce the fee to £8m, but also reduce the amount of appearances required before the fee is due.

This would make the deal cheaper for Everton, but also make it more likely that they would have to cough up funds for Dele this season.

Both sides are said to be ‘open to further talks,’ however, so we could still see the makeup of Dele’s deal changed before the end of the campaign.

If this is true then we must be planning on using him.

We have a 7 game free hit with him, use him then go from there that will be enough time to know if he's still got it or not.

My take is different. If this is true, we have no plans to play him.

If he really wants to get his career back on track, then both him and ourselves could do worse than getting him out on loan for 4 weeks on January 1st. Provided he could get first team football of course.

He'd have to take a big step down in order to get guaranteed starts like, but it's an idea I would be trying to sell to him as being beneficial if I were Dyche.

Good question. I would guess that HMRC dont really care how sustainable a club is, as long as it pays the tax and NI.

HMRC don't care what the borrowing is for.

PL make allowances for infrastructure costs to be excluded from those calculations, interest on those infrastructure investments being one of them.
