He deserved us thank goodness'''..'....Ask carlo
Real competition for places this term will stop the downing of tools I reckon. The effort is coming from the fact nobody's name is automatic on that team sheet this season unlike last. As for the manager downing tools, well Ancelotti looked on us as a gift from the Gods whilst his seat at Madrid was cleared. Fans saw it but Evertons owners and bill payers didn't.. Manic. There was loads last season saying ‘it was only Brighton, it was only West Brom etc.’, they got all giddy when we finally lost to Southampton. There’s loads of them on here that just revel in Everton being rubbish.
I think Benitez will give far less days of the apathetic Everton Ancelotti could churn out. Ancelotti though gave us James and some wornderful moments. People forget now but his record in his first 12 months with us was brilliant. If Benitez can do the same we’ll be back on the right path and hopefully this time it’s not derailed by injury and everyone from manager to players downing tools for the second half of the season.
Again I don't think it's unreasonable to argue that it hasn't all been very good. The League Cup match for example was one of those were the result papered over large cracks that appear when squad depth gets stretched.I wish I'd have remembered the term "melt" and used it first, I thought that was my first name as a kid lol Balanced post though from you and I agree. Very early days. However as I said I can only comment on the 4 games so far plus the league cup match. All very good!!! Can't fathom how some would say otherwise.
To be fair I believe we put out a true 2nd 11 that night to prove what they were made of. A first 11 last year would have struggled in that sort of battle..The League Cup match for example was one of those were the result papered over large cracks that appear when squad depth gets stretched.
Great result and second half showing, but that first half was absolutely abysmal. Anyone who says otherwise is a friggin nutcase.
3 at the back v the dingles is a piss take, and up there with the worst Walter Smith threw at us.
Fair play to Benitez for changing it - I thought Gomes was bloody brilliant when he came on.
I agree it was a very 2nd XI but I think early last season a first 11 was pretty comfortable against lower league oppo in the League Cup. It never developed into that sort of battle. To be fair I believe we put out a true 2nd 11 that night to prove what they were made of. Where were the plentiful attacking options first half then mate? Plus the 3cbs were getting bullied by wood and that groxk Barnes cos they didn't know their jobs or take control - they both got better when Godfrey went off (which I assume was fitness related.).Not sure about that - finding a way to accommodate your biggest players against Burnley isn't a disgraceful or dour tactical decision. So long as Digne, Coleman and Doucore got forward with Richarlison, Gray and Townsend then there was plenty of attacking options.
Mike Tyson coudn't bully Mina.Where were the plentiful attacking options first half then mate? Plus the 3cbs were getting bullied by wood and that groxk Barnes cos they didn't know their jobs or take control - they both got better when Godfrey went off (which I assume was fitness related.).
We played right into Dyches and Burnley's hands setting up like that - far too negative.
At least Benitez adapted and changed things just after going behind, and I thought Townsend was great attacking and supporting Coleman defensively.
