A divided fan base still when we are playing great football

Your going to have to accept last season was the best start we had in 30 odd years and was a freak accurance and the wheels fell off right now we lost 3 games in a row. I can't see us doing that this time. And that more than pleases me. This is fantastic. How can you not be pleased.

Oh yeah, agenda. Nevermind.

Haha and you think I have an agenda. ..bless

Not sure the argument of great football stands up.

Abysmal first half vs saints, better in the second half but hardly great.
Some nice bits of counterattacking football vs Leeds but they controlled the game, not us.
Brighton was the only game we have actually controlled it all game.
A great 10 mins last night surrounded by a pretty poor rest of game, especially the 60 mins leading up to the 10 mins.

We should be controlling these games from the word go. Can you imagine playing like the saints and Burnley first halves against man United or City, they would have slotted 4/5. So yes, saying its just saints or just Burnley is valid.

Outside the top four few teams control games for more than the odd fifteen minutes here and there. A better team than Burnley could have been three up last night. We are heading the best of the rest as the table stands, just enjoy it while we can and stick with the clichéd one game at a time.

I Am enjoying the wins, don't get me wrong. But just think we need to stay with reality of what the games are rather than spouting off about it being great football, which it really hasn't been.

Our last 4 seasons we have finished

8th 8th 12th 10th

We haven't the quality to be hammering sides and controlling games of football every week its as simple as that.

Until Benitez gets actual money to strengthen the side just enjoy the wins and the fact we are playing with some fight and energy for a change - I don't know what people expect no game in the PL is a banker these days Palace beat Spurs 3-0, Brentford beat Arsenal and Southampton drew with Utd.

I thought players started off lethargic last night as was the crowd which didnt help.

Yes they are, the ones who are myopic. Why dont you grow up and realise if we keep going behind we will come unstuck. Against a better team we would be punished for that first 60
I seem to remember the r/s supporters moaning about their team always playing crap in the 1st half when Benitez was manager. Still, I'd rather win after being behind than lose after being ahead. That's a real bummer.

I think we started the game badly, due to a new formation and then grew into the game as the players became aware of where they had to be in a live situation, etc.

Changed it up, continued with the plan to change it up despite the equaliser, sign of a manager confident in his decision making.

He is very pragmatic, which does not mean defensive, it is a great thing to have. I will also agree with Carragher (I know, I know), when he said that Benitez knows what we want as a club. He was in the Derby cauldron and he saw Goodison when it was rocking the most, when we had players who wanted to play for us, who showed heart and desire. Previous managers didn't really get that and wanted to put there own stamp on proceedings which is great, if it works, but it hasn't, so now it is time to go back to a tried and tested method of hard work, graft with a sprinkling of talent in there.

It is, with no doubt, early days and I appreciate people who will be negative to certain aspects but there are enough positives to be fairly positive with the normal sense of 'Everton that' about it.

The results so far have been good , there's no denying that. However we've only beaten teams that with our squad and budget we should be beating. If we get 7 points out of the next 9 then I will begin to believe we might achieve something meaningful this season.
Some of our play is tremendous and for 15 minutes last night we were unplayable. In patches we showed similar form against Brighton.
However our slow start against Southampton and how Benitez set us up last night and was so slow to change gives cause for concern.
Cautiously optimistic for the rest of the season but concerned that Benitez doesn't seen to want to reconcile James back into the squad ( not the first XI but a good option from the bench) and how we cope with DCL's absence.

How divided is the fan base really?

Those at the match seem pretty much behind the team (though there were rumblings after half an hour last night).

Is it just a minority online who are divided, is that representative of the wider fan base.

By the way, nobody is in the wrong here, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just question whether the sweeping statement that we have a divided fan base is true.

Unless we're not talking about 50:50 here, probably somewhere around 90:10?
