A divided fan base still when we are playing great football

I'm still punching the air tonight as an Evertonian with the start we've made.
Much as I was last season with the start we made, problem is some "blues" are trying to dampen it this season by crying "It was only Southampton", "It was only Burnley" when a win was a win last year, you don't seem happy for the cause.........why?

Come back twice from behind too which is a first for Everton of late, and making changes when changes need making is a breath of much needed fresh air.
We're not going to challenge Utd, City, Chelsea and the RS just yet but I think we're well equipped for the fight for "best of the rest".

If this team needed to beat a sheff Utd at home to gain a European place I'd have confidence in them.

Different feeling to last season altogether for me, with a manager not waiting for a call from Madrid or the technical know how and motivational skills of an eccles cake lol There, said it:coffee:
I know of other blues who still think redeveloping Goodison is on the cards mate and BMD is just a conspiracy theory

I still stand by almost everything I said before he came here.

He shouldn't really have been on the list, and this thread (and forum) are examples of why - his appointment has divided the fanbase and it will take a while for that to heal (it may never for some). The extension of that is that he's such a contentious appointment that he will get less scope to get things right from the fanbase than anyone who's ever gone before him and for that reason I felt he was up against it and would need to get off to a really good start to have a chance of it working.

That said, he was by some distance the best option out there that we could have attracted. Very few people have actually ever said they think he's a poor manager and he has actually got off to a good start, so maybe it might work out after all.

The thing I guess that impressed me about Benitez (and Moshiri to an extent) with this choice was that both of them knew how unpopular this would be, but they both went ahead and did it anyway. Takes some bottle that.

I genuinely detested the fella before he came here. I'm thawing on that because it's impossible for me to watch Everton and want them to lose just to get rid of him. He couldn't really have done much more to win me round yet, and it was only a few months ago I was vowing never to set foot in Goodison while he was there. If he wins people round, it'll be because he's doing a good job. It's early days, but he couldn't realistically have done much more to this point.

Genuinely think Liverpool’s recent success has made things worse in our fanbase and has made us more antsy and impatient. People will say it hasn’t but it deffo has.

Probably. Yeah, probably that.

But it’s great at aways, it’s moody and usually makes a good atmosphere, but at home, just feel like we’ve got a small selection who simply will never be pleased.

Don’t get me wrong, my hatred for them has ramped up, but not the proper ones, just the helmets who have emerged from the woodwork, who probably don’t even know who Paul Koncheskey.

Good when it’s toxic, is absolutely terrible. I sound defeatist when I say it, but I remember us nearly getting liquidated and signing the likes of Stracqualursi, and when our star signing was Gazza on a free.

Certainly with the younger generation, don’t think we realise how good we’ve got it.

Rafael has not divided the fanbase. He has divided the fans on online forums like this which is deffo not representative of the fan base and never will be. The fanbase is the crowd who pack into Goodision to support their team. Anyone who thinks different is delusional.

So anyone that doesn’t go to the game isn’t a fan? Interesting take since you no longer go to the game.

That is one definition of fanbase. There are other definitions. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional

We are winning, which is great... No seriously....

Are we playing great, though? Hmmm..... Question to ponder, me thinks...

Let's revisit this after 10-12 games have been played and maybe we have shown glimpses of not-bottling it against the "bigger" teams. Till then, it's just a little bit of "been there, done that and went downhill fast". Remember last year, we led the league for 33 days I believe, I might be wrong, as I haven't looked up the stats. And then, we know what happened.

So, let's not get ahead of ourselves just now.... If we keep this up, I will be ecstatic, but have been an Everton follower for far too long to fall for that. :D

We struggled so badly last season against lesser teams, who did we lose to again? Fulham, Burnley, West Ham, Leeds, Villa, Newcastle just to name a few. And in the previous season it was Sheff Utd, Norwich and Bournemouth etc. It will be interesting to see how we fare against "bigger" sides. That 6 minutes of bliss the other night was great, first time in years that I was excited by watching us. But I won't forget the previous 60 mins. I'm not expecting us to be amazing for 90 mins, just put in a good shift. There has been a serious lack of urgency in recent seasons, where if we went behind it was essentially game over...not to mention we looked so dodgy defending a lead (still can't believe we threw away that 2 goal lead in injury time to an awful Newcastle side).

What was my point again? Oh yeah COYBs.

Do some people think we just have to turn up v Burnley and they'll roll over to give us a 4 0 win. They are.and always have been a highly physical difficult opposition.
We're looking fitter.scoring some great goals.and players who looked finished last year have massively Improved. Be positive

Absolutely our players faced their aggressive approach and this was menttioned by Rafael. My I also point out Klopp complained after their game with Burnley.

I certainly do not labour under the delusion that arguments on a online fanbase are in any way representative of Evertonians as a whole. The abuse online for example hardly exists amongst match going fans, especially the away fans. Stands to reason I believe. My relegation to online/ TV support is painful. I will never adjust to it.

We have a lesson to learn from last year. The first ten games there is the element of surprise. But it’s important to not be too obvious. We struggled once teams worked us out. The real test is after 10 games and the grind of Christmas games and also injuries testing the depth of the squad. Enjoy the games, and I’m just happy we’re scoring in most games.

This happens to every team. Very few teams play well for the full 90 minutes in the league. Results all that matter.
Yeah sure its great saying that while we're riding our luck but we can't be the worse side for 60 minutes per game over the course of the season and be confident we end in a good place. Good results won't keep coming unless we start games better. We won't be playing the likes of Burnley and Southampton all the time.
