A divided fan base still when we are playing great football

The football hasn't been " great " but it's still an improvement on most of last season, true for 50/60 minutes last night we were poor but it ended up a 3-1 win, now I know there will be shouts of it's only Burnley, Southampton etc, you can only beat what's in front of you, Norwich, Burnley, Leeds, Chelsea the rs have played, not dissimilar to our fixtures yet they are getting talked up, just enjoy the moments and stop looking for reasons to complain

15 mins of great? football and 75 mins of poor/ok football we’ve had a easy start to the season to teams that will struggle so don’t get carried away yet.
Totally agree mate - it's a good start against teams who we should be doing well against, but we can't keep starting games like we have been, especially against the better sides who may have the quality to put the result beyond us before we know it.

I do really like that we look fitter all over the park, and are showing a bit of backbone and desire for a change.

I also like that Benitez stuck to his guns and adapted that shape and system with Gomes coming on ( I admit I was a little concerned seeing it was him, but I thought he was brilliant last night).

We wouldn't have won that game under our previous managers.

This is it, really. We'd all rather we were at it from the first minute and blasting cloggers like these off the park 6-0, but the reality is we are starting games slowly (like last season) and have fallen behind to crap teams at home (like last season) but the key difference is those nailed on losses (according to our home form in particular last season) have turned into wins.

Even if you argue that last season we may have held onto the result at Leeds, we're still 4pts better off.

Do some people think we just have to turn up v Burnley and they'll roll over to give us a 4 0 win. They are.and always have been a highly physical difficult opposition.
We're looking fitter.scoring some great goals.and players who looked finished last year have massively Improved. Be positive

Before anyone has a go: I know it was a pre season friendly but Man Utd showed what can happen if we continue to start slowly against the better sides. 3 down and game over in the 1st 30 minutes. No amount of changing tactics after that, is gonna get us back in the game.

I’m happy with the points on the board, but I don’t see why we have to pretend the football has been that good

Pragmatism is fine, there’s no need to put lipstick on a pig right now when it comes to talking up the quality of the football

The majority of the football we’ve played so far this season has been pretty basic stuff

And you know what, if it keeps getting results then that’s great

The football has been good at times though. Benitez has shown in his first 4 games that he can set the team up to look dangerous and we're scoring at a similar rate to the top teams.

I'll also admit, there have been periods of games where he's tried something that hasn't worked, but he's never scared to switch it up and so far the team he has put out has found the level to win games/get results.

The problem is our fanbase are desperate for the school of science but that only works when you have the best players like the top 4 sides have.

We dont and we need to mix it up. The problem is those same fans who dined on good football in the glory days see anything else as "dinosaur" football and even when we win games 3-1 we need to improve as we should be winning 4-0 with 70% possession and 20 shots per game.

Some need a reality check that we are a mid table outfit who spent the lowest amount in the league this summer.

The foundations are slowly being put in place by Benitez but this isn't a quick fix with this squad of players.

I don't think our fans will ever be happy.

I mean, myself, I'm only 29, i've not seen us win a trophy, but i feel like the support is changing, into a more angry, less tolerant group than ever before. I've seen us play 4-6-0 under Walter Smith, and stay up on the last day, and yet there wasn't this moody atmosphere.

Nowadays, I just can't fathom what the "younger" generation want. The "older" generation, they just seem grounded, like defeated and I don't get that. You've seen the European trophy, and winning leagues and the glory years, why aren't they angry to want it back?

The back of the Gwladys yesterday, was ready to be moody all game (but not in a positive way), and I really don't get that. Prior to yesterday, we'd not lost a game, won 3 out of 4, and played some of the best football for a long time, yet it was still moody.

If they're not moaning about Ancelotti's dinosaur football, they're moaning about Ex-RS manager, and if they're not moaning about Iwobi, they're on someone elses back. I just think we're a bunch of cry arses, god forbid we ever win a trophy, no one will know what to do with themselves.

We been that bad for that long that it’s made us all grumpy. We gone no where in the last 10 years, spent 500 mil and are no better now then when we where skint. We been taken over by smaller less supportered clubs like Chelsea(not anymore), Spurs/Leicester.

Genuinely think Liverpool’s recent success has made things worse in our fanbase and has made us more antsy and impatient. People will say it hasn’t but it deffo has.
