Ademola Lookman

How is Lookman not a natural winger?

Pace personified
Genuine question this, but is he that fast? I always think he looks like he should be fast, but he very rarely shows it. One of my biggest bugbears with him is his tendency to seem like he's away from somebody after a bit of skill, only to check back, get rid of the ball, or start running sideways. I always assumed it was because he lacked the pace to capitalise on the space he'd created, but I never watched him in Germany or anything so I may well be wrong.

He stops too often to ever use his pace if he’s got it. To me, it looks like a player not quick enough to shake off whoever is challenging him for the ball and rather stopping abruptly to give himself a little space to get rid of the ball. Walcott is legit quick, and he almost never does that abrupt stop to get space, he gets space from his pace. His end product isnt good enough, but thats another discussion.

Yeah that's how I've always seen it too.

He’s quick, not sure he’s THAT pacey. He’s got tricks and might have some goals, but he’s a left sided forward. He’s also perfect for the way we play, but on the left. Definitely not a winger, but we don’t play with wingers.

Marco Silva has confirmed he left Ademola Lookman out of his Everton squad for the Merseyside derby because of tactical reasons. And Silva confirmed to the ECHO that his decision was a tactical one, and that it's not uncommon for him to make hard choices in leaving certain players out of his plans. The boss said: "Against Cardiff I had to leave James [McCarthy] out of the squad and Tom [Davies] to be in the stand, it's always tough for me.
Don't agree with this chief.

I had doubts about that until he came on against City and blitzed Kyle Walker in a foot race

The lad does have attitude, he needs to concentrate on being a footballer...
He has real talent but his attitude is getting in the way...

“They have to show to me during the week [they deserve to play] – and, of course, when I take some decisions nobody expects, they are coming from the training sessions.

“And the players know that.”

I think the main problem is that Walcott is the only "natural" Right Forward/Winger.

Sure you could try Lookman, Bernie or Rico there and they might do a good job, I suspect with regards Walcott is all about sunk cost fallacy, same with Iceland to a degree, but at least Iceland produces.

Just because he’s the only one that prefers playing there doesn’t mean he should be picked . He’s been so dog tang it is unreal, he offers nothing at all, not even an out ball

I wouldn’t say he is fast like Walcott used to be etc but he has a burst of pace and a trick to get beyond his man. Like you said tho he gets caught easily so he needs to be given the ball in and around the area so he can beat his man and then cross or shoot , or he needs options ahead of him and decent movement if he beats his men on the half way line etc
