Ademola Lookman

In a few years time they may not be right. However, he's not in the plans, has some value and therefor is expendable. Who knows, lots of players fail to reach potential and can't live up to the hype. He didn't have signs that's he's the next big thing. I feel it was a smart business move for a club that's trying to compete right now, not three or four years from now when Lookman may or may not reach his potential.
I really really really hope the club is not thinking of trying to compete now because we 100% are not close and building the squad for 3 or 4 years from now is exactly what we should be doing. We lose out to City the RS and Spurs at basically every position currently. It takes time to catch up.

You have the wrong person I haven't done that. But since you brought it up, it's actually way closer than you think. If Lookman was consistently on the field all season it's possible he would have been just as impressive.

My mistake, apologies!

What makes you think that it would’ve been way closer than I think? I’m basing it off his performances for us, compared to watching Odoi who was impressive every time he touched the ball last season.

You can’t compare lookman to Hudson Odoi.. Odoi did more in his first 10 minutes in a Chelsea shirt than Lookman has in his entire playing time for us.

Hudson Odoi had a far greater number of minutes and more starts than Lookman got, and minutes are what are vitally important at that development age.

Lookman got the minutes at RBL and got 5 goals in 11 appearances, playing in a Champions League team in one of Europes best leagues - arguably the best league for young players too.

You can absolutely compare the two because although I think CHO has taken his chance much faster, he’s also been given the opportunities to make mistakes. He’s had the faith of the Chelsea coaching team and will continue to get their support with this transfer ban. He’s fortunate.

Lookman may not be as good, he may end up being better. He certainly has talent. The G/A per minute stats are favourable for him in comparison to some of the better young players around Europe. Bad decision to let him go.

And it’s incredibly short term thinking to start Walcott ahead of a kid who i’d wager will go on to be much much better than he ever was at his peak.

It’s also possible he would have stunk the place out.

The manager and his coaches, who sees him every day in training, concluded the latter more likely than the former.

They could be wrong, but I’d say their educated guesses have greater value than anyone on here.

The manager is always right?

Stop the debates, close the website.

Hasn’t featured much for the England U23’s much recently either.

So everyone involved with that set up is wrong too ?

No, they just can’t justify including a player not getting minutes for their club when so many other young wide players are.

Foden, Sessegnon, Nelson, Barnes, Wilson, Maddison, Mount and Gray all regulars last season for their clubs.

I think Lookman was very impressive at times too. I said to someone else going back through the match threads is enlightening. People are very complimentary. City away he was brilliant. Chelsea away he was good too. There are others. This he never showed anything narrative is contrived imo.

Also if you believe in numbers at all they're relatively similar. I think Lookman's are hurt by his off and on game time too.

At a minimum they should have found out

Pienaar summed it up better than any of us could... game time game time and more game time. He will get that now so I’m happy for him. As said I’m happy he is going but for the wrong reasons unfortunately... Over to Steven

I am looking forward to Lookman getting more game time and developing as a player because he is a really exciting young player,” Pienaar told the ECHO.
He is still young and raw but I can see a lot of good signs in him. His talent is there, he just needs the finishing touches and hopefully this will be his season to break through.
“I was quite fortunate when I broke into the Ajax first-team, Ronald Koeman came in the December and two months later he played me and let me play until the end of the season.
“Young players need to make mistakes to learn from them and you need to play week in, week out. There is a lot of expectation to win games but he just needs to push himself and be consistent.”
