probly because silva was under so much pressure to win some games he played his best team at all times.

if he had played a weaker team and lost more games then he Silva himself might have been the one leaving.

Surely not Silva?. He who mustn’t be challenged. He who can do no wrong. Surely a few more losses in those final 10 games wouldn’t have cost him his job. Sure, our fan base adores him. 9/10 last year for Marco despite not achieving the best of the rest status we all fairly unanimously agreed would be our minimum expectation given the expenditure, and after embarassing us in the cup exits. Surely MS was under no pressure at all.

that's the majority of peoples viewpoint on here...

it wasn't mine.

this season is very very different.

there ARE expectations this season

Europa or higher or BUST

and id even say a good cup run is a must too... as in semi finals

But what if we draw City away in the 3rd round?

Walcott gets picked regularly because he has pace which worries defenders. Lookman has tricks but no pace.

And that’s why, in my opinion we’ve just got 20-odd million (does anyone know the finer points of the deal) for the under-21 English McGeady.

Because Richarlison and Bernard were our starting wingers and playing very well, why would Silva drop either of them for a lad who isn't doing it in training?
Because it was more valuable late last year to see if players like Kenny, Davies and Lookman could handle the Prem than to win games that weren't going to net us anything.

But what if we draw City away in the 3rd round?

Leicester, Newcastle, Palace, Spurs, Chelsea and Lyon beat them last season. No reason we couldn’t.

I’d accept going out to City away in the FA Cup and League Cup. Chalk it up to tough draws. But not going out to Millwall and Southampton after putting out a second string.

Inexcusable.

But what if we draw City away in the 3rd round?

aslong as we give them a game I don't care ..

we couldn't even match Southampton at our place and a dredfull millwall side last season.

obv coming up against the champions is a different story

We need wide players. Lookman is a young wide player with great potential that needs minutes. We weren’t ever going to finish higher than 7th or lower than 9th.

Bernard wasn’t playing very well. He’s an average player at the level we aspire to and we have no competent centre forward.

We’d have been much better off giving Lookman a run of games and Richarlison playing through the middle with either Bernard or Walcott on the other side.

Worst case, we’d sell Lookman for what we have now. Best case he performs and either sees a long term future here or we sell him for double that figure.
If we beat Newcastle or Fulham we would have finished 7th.

Bernard is quality and integral to how Digne gets forward, being able to take the ball in tight positions and keeping hold of it.

We tried Richy through the middle, it didn't work.

We can bring in a better player than Lookman or, if he gets a work permit, Onyekuru will just take his position in the squad. Again why would you play somebody who, it has been implied, is massively inconsistent in training.

If we beat 1 of Fulham or Newcastle we would have finished 7th and got Europa, therefore the best players played

Current Everton manager, a youth team league winning manager, an ex England manager albeit for one game due to corruption and the current holland manager all deciding a player isn’t deserving a place in the team due to either inability or a seriously bad attitude and work ethic. But none of these guys matter as thebigiguana somehow feels his opinion is right compared to managers and sporting directors on millions per year.

Excellent business by the club, making a profit on a player that offers us absolutely nothing and by selling him we will no doubt progress as a team.

I don't count Europa as much of a prize personally. Imagine trying to play in it with our squad depth.
Do you really think Silva would rather have no Europa than Europa? I think he would have loved to have qualified to test himself and the squad. I myself would have loved a Europa run, go to European away game, easier to persuade players and another chance at a pot.
