I just looked at the situation at that point and thought "WTF". £20+M for HIM?! Why on earth are they turning that down. The long game Dave, fair play.
I doubt I was alone in thinking that too.

I should think he would be, given it's the elephant in the drawing room position we need filling.
I thought, along with others, that Brands was on the ball and waiting for the window to open to rectify an commission to this first team that's been there for years. The fact he has left it this late suggests to me that faith was misplaced.Again, he will have plenty of irons in the fire, I get why it’s frustrating to you and others because there’s no mistaking it’s a problem area but would you prefer another Sandro type mistake or more competency where the right deal is struck in terms of both fee and wages?

He played in the Ukrainian league, not Russia. Bernard Doubles Lookman's avg key passes, slightly more dribbles per game avg... double the crossing average...that's a player that hadn't played in 6 months and moved to a more physical league. Right now he's the better player, maybe not by the time AL is his age but who cares about that. 1 Key difference above everything else is Bernard wants to and enjoys playing for Everton, AL doesn't appear to want to and definitely doesn't look like he enjoys it. 'nuff said reallyBernard is massively overrated by fans who act like they’ve never seen a flair player before, 1 goal all season and 15 goals in 95 in the Russian league. Lookman is the far better dribbler, goalscorer, creator/playmaker and quicker as well, no comparison
I care because realistically we arent winning the title next season and CL is a stretch. We shouldn't be throwing aside players that have a bright future because we are thinking too short term.He played in the Ukrainian league, not Russia. Also if you've sorted stats per game it is going to automatically skew in Bernard's favor since he had mostly starts meaning he got over 2000 minutes in his 30 or so appearances while Lookman came off the bench 15+ times meaning he had 20ish appearances and 600 minutes. If you sort per 90 it is a different picture. He played in the Ukrainian league, not Russia. He wanted to leave before last season started. The manager who seems to have brought the best out in many players(even Schneiderlin looked a player last year) said he wasn't consistent in training and he requires that to start. Yes it would be great if he had knuckled down and earned those starts but he didn't. Giving him another players place in the team even though he worked less than them in training would be bad management and would affect morale. Players want to fight for their place with players who fight for their place too. That builds team spirit... even Mina wants Zouma back! There'll be other talents, no doubt about itI care because realistically we arent winning the title next season and CL is a stretch. Which is why at the very least Lookman should have had 5-10 starts last season with maybe a string of 4 or 5 in a row just to keep him feeling like he was wanted and to see if he could handle the league.

not only are they averaged per 90, Lookman got most of his stats with fresh legs against tired defendersAlso if you've sorted stats per game it is going to automatically skew in Bernard's favor since he had mostly starts meaning he got over 2000 minutes in his 30 or so appearances while Lookman came off the bench 15+ times meaning he had 20ish appearances and 600 minutes. His play in the matches he actually got into warranted more time. I don't blame him for being frustrated that he was denied a move and not given chances. Silva made his comments in March so it isn't impossible that Lookman gave his all before then and only slacked once he had been inexplicably dropped again following the Millwall debacle which definitely was more than just his fault. He wanted to leave before last season started. Do you have a link? Because what I see is Bernard 1.7 key passes per 90 and Lookman 1.5. Which isn't double. And your post literally says per game.the stats are averaged per 90
