Well, an infraction carries a point value. When you hit a certain level, the system automatically bans.
We don't like giving them out, and would prefer the dialogue and friendly reminders. Like I said, gifs have their place, lets just keep them out of the Everton forum (go to the alehouse, that would be a more appropriate place).

He is a good player. Tricky feet, glides across the front of the box, can pick a pass, but just lacks a quality cross. He is good no doubt about it. RM will get him to fit in well.

Why is this ?
GIFs are often just as effective a way as communicating as words, and from what i've seen most users like them. Why stop people using something most people seem to enjoy ?

I'd think it hurts traffic and alienates potential new members. If someone's looking for the latest news on transfers and views our transfer thread only to have to wade through 10 pages of gifs before coming across anything football related it makes us look cliquey. The ale house is there for that reason, to discuss non football related topics and post gifs etc.
That's a different argument though. If GIFs are being spammed and used to stupid levels then fair enough, but the odd one ? Be banning smileys next !
I'm not saying the rule should change, it's not my remit, i'm just wondering why that decision has been reached. Externally linked images don't take up server space so i can't see performance being an issue, and if some members are using them loads then i'd have thought the better option would be to warn/ban than to have a blanket ban on GIFs for everybody.
What about GIFs of goals, for example ?
I'm not fussed on the Scottish lad, but i'm willing to give him a chance
