I had the same argument myself with posters on here when we signed him, Arsenal were not in any rush to keep him.

It´s annoying to see people shrug their shoulders at these fees. You want to be a club competing at the top you´ve got to get your transfers right. Liverpool have done it so well over the past 4 years and that´s why they´re winning the league. We´ve done it so badly and that´s why we´re languishing in the bottom half.

It's part of a wider issue to be honest, if you look at our top 15 record signings, we've spent the best part of £400m in the last few years and there's only Richarlison and Lukaku who the majority would agree have been a success and increased in value. The club as a whole have got our strategy entirely wrong, entrusted the wrong individuals with this money (and continue to do so) and it's 100% set the club back a number of years as we're now stuck trying to get players off the books at a huge loss.

I saw we were linked with him - injuries are a concern but I would certainly offer a few quid + Iwobi as a sweetener.

Ancelotti and Brands need to take their time here and identify the right players for the way Ancelotti wants us to play... No more buying players just because they become available... He has one last fleeting chance to prove himself for mine and that's in the middle of the park.

Would be interested to see how he would play as the more attacking member of the 2 CM's. One thing you can't fault is his energy and work-ethic, it's his execution that lacks. At this point, I'd prefer energy over execution considering the state of our dire midfield.

We even tried to show some positivity towards this signing with the whole “well Arsenal aren’t sad to see him here, he’s uninspiring but someone’s dragged up some alright stats maybe he’ll come good”. Such a shame we were all in denial.

Food for thought on Iwobi

That also highlights his deficiencies when playing wide and basically says he should be in the 10 position or learn how to defend.

For me, I quite liked Iwobi in the 10 position, maybe in a 4312 he'd be good feeding DCL and Richarlison.

But out wide he'd need a full preseason to basically learn how to position himself there defensively...that may not be enough as he doesnt seem cut out for it.

Picking your wingers based on defense is a good way to ensure that you never win anything. All he has to be is adequate.
