Pretty sure Rafael will pick the team he feels will win the game for Everton. If iwobi continues in the way he has started the season there's no reason why he can't play his way into the starting 11. Understandably it will take us fans a while to trust him, but I really hope he does it
I’m sorry but I have to say hell no to this. If you want to experiment with him in the starting lineup, you use cups for that. He falls short 99 percent of the time he starts a league game. RWB being the exception

This is spot on, but Carlo clearly did not rate Iwobi
Not defending him as such. A lot of things I didn't like about Carlo, especially his reluctance to give youth players any kind of chance.

Just playing devils advocate really. There's no doubt he had a positive effect on the likes of DCL and Keane especially, the latter being an absolute wreck under Silva, but also Davies put on half a dozen of his best performances in an Everton shirt. Think he managed the Pickford issue very well too.

But the likes of Kean, Iwobi, Gomes and especially Richarlison regressed under him.

Is that Gomes the double compound fracture Gomes ? The man who came back after a career threatening double break -in record time Gomes ? Just want to be sure we are on the same page with this one .

Must be a different one mate. I'm talking about the guy who dislocated his ankle

So you're saying a squad with at least some of the players displaying a poor attitude combined with a laid-back manager wasn't the best pathway to success?

I think the managers credentials in Ancelotti meant the focus was on the players.

As Coleman said in the article I linked - players hid behind too many managers. This core will do the same to Benitez.

Imagine, in any line of work, admitting you need a manager on at you 24/7 to perform.

Not ideal, really.

Goes back to this, IMO.
I think having a manager who doesn't give a toss is going to be pretty disruptive to any work setting. Football is even a step above because the manager matters, a lot, and without one who knows what they're doing and cares enough to do it everyone else can suffer.

Attitude starts at the top. I personally don't think the players really dropped off that much last year in desire. I do think the amount they had to work with tactically coming from Carlo did drop off. He didn't look to solve problems proactively so they largely went unsolved. Someone like Iwobi gets the most stick from that because all those who decided they disliked the signing early on get to be right. Same with a Delph or a Kean.
