2023/24 Amadou Onana

As I said last night, if he put it 30 yards over, or wide - that's life.

It's not his fault we've not won a trophy since before he was born - but that penalty style just sticks in the throat.

Whether its ego, arrogance or just his penalty 'style', I hope we never see it again. Whether in a game when we're 2-0 up, and especially not for a penalty to send us to a semi final.

Should never have been in the 5 anyway, a few of us give our players to take a pen before the shootout and I dont recall one saying him. I had Garner and Pickford ahead of him. Only Gana I'd have had taking a penalty after Onana.

I love the way people talk about these "modern" pens. David Unsworth used to take pens like that. He strode up to the ball, waited for the keeper to commit and then rolled it in the other side. He was one of our most successful penalty takers. I remember the one time the goalie refused to dive, and on that occasion he leathered it and nearly broke the bar!!

That's not my recollection mate.

His most important penalty in his career was for Wigan to keep them in the Prem, and this is how he took it;

I think it's a pen from a bloke who can't blast the ball and therefore has to try and fool the goalkeeper. I don't think I've seen Onana get a shot on target from 12 yards out.

Whys he putting himself forward for the penalty then hahahaha

I agree with what your saying though, he's not a clean striker of the ball so was always going to do something like he did

He definitely did the waiting thing for most of his Everton penalties. I suppose the difference is that penalty at Sheff Utd was massive, it was worth over £50 million so he probably didn't want to risk it

Got to put in context Unsworth was solid professional. Onana gives the big "come on crowd lets here you" very often, he has proper goofed that up now.

Onana is a good example why Dyche is not keen on the young modern player, they cost you games because they believe they know better. Arrogance personified .

You think he can't kick a ball hard enough from the penalty spot so he has to find another way to score?

/Logs off.
I'm not saying he can't kick it hard enough, just that his accuracy is not good. If you can show me a few hard shots from the edge if the box or a bit further in from Onana since he arrived where the keeper has had to make a good save I'll gladly withdraw my remark

The issue is chaps we've been saying this for the past 28 years now.

When does the playing staff and fanbase develop standards befitting the stature of the football club ?

Mistakes happen (Distin back pass) and players miss pens but yesterday wasn't a standard mistake or miss it was just sheer arrogance/ over confidence by Amadou who lets be honest will see this club as a stepping stone to bigger and better days ahead elsewhere.

I would rather an example be made and the boy have a bruised ego than brush it off as "one of those tings" which reinforces the narrative of this club having no desire or ability to achieve anything of real note.

Just creates a toxic environment this kind of attitude though doesn't it? What kind of player would enjoy playing for a club where they are expected to publically apologise for every mistake they make. Onana is a good player for us with a good chance of being an excellent one. Let's focus on that!

He may not have, if they looked at stats, for pens took during training etc, which means nothing. He may have been one that scores more in training than most and was therefore picked. Afterall if all said they would take one, thats seems to be,well to me how they maybe picked them.

I agree about the attitude, but as my lad pointed out that often masks insecurity.

It was a pen from someone who thinks he’s better than he actually is.
That's what it looked like. I mean, it might not have been - maybe he genuinely thought that was the best way to beat the keeper, but it looked like you said: arrogant, self-indulgent, and self-aggrandising. Gueye gets little criticism because people think that was his best genuine attempt (and accept he is technically deficient), but Onana's looked onanistic last night. A sickener.

Dyche has already said mate ( I'm sure ) that he asked who wanted to take one
