Keane's was a text book case of a player knowing what to do and then doing it with precision. A proper peno that.

It's going to be difficult for him as we don't get to cup quarter finals that often. You need real performers in the massive moments and he couldn't deliver. Playing ok in a league game won't make up for that unfortunately.

Distin's was an FA Cup semi at wembley against a depleted RS team though. You could also see it come a mile off! A league cup QF against Fulham doesnt hold the same gravitas.

Lets face it, we have just spared ourselves some pain and suffering further down the line anyway...

The issue is chaps we've been saying this for the past 28 years now.

When does the playing staff and fanbase develop standards befitting the stature of the football club ?

Mistakes happen (Distin back pass) and players miss pens but yesterday wasn't a standard mistake or miss it was just sheer arrogance/ over confidence by Amadou who lets be honest will see this club as a stepping stone to bigger and better days ahead elsewhere.

I would rather an example be made and the boy have a bruised ego than brush it off as "one of those tings" which reinforces the narrative of this club having no desire or ability to achieve anything of real note.

Richarlson did same in a shoot out with a silly approach, pretty sure he learnt and now Spurs benefit, well in a fashion.

I love the way people talk about these "modern" pens. David Unsworth used to take pens like that. He strode up to the ball, waited for the keeper to commit and then rolled it in the other side. He was one of our most successful penalty takers. I remember the one time the goalie refused to dive, and on that occasion he leathered it and nearly broke the bar!!

The coaching staff had confidence in him. It didn't come off.

Danjuma should have wrapped the win up, rush of blood, hammered a presentable chance wide. Very little is made of that.

Onana is (according to this) one of our more reliable penalty takers.

Since Moyes left we've been plagued with billy big charlies.

Numerous managers thrown under the bus, Iwobi and his instagram, DCL/Davies with their side hustles, Rom spouting off to the media every international break, Schneiderlin, Williams and so on.

Dyche is slowly building a team who may be limited ability wise but work their socks off for the cause (Harrison, The Duke, Myko etc). We need less of Onana's showboating and more dedication to the cause.

Big fan of his potential but wouldn't shed a tear if he's moved on in the summer after yesterday providing we reinvested the money correctly.

That was as big an opportunity to win a trophy since the defeat to Wigan. Phil Neville lost many a fans support that day and I fear the same for Amadou.
