2023/24 Amadou Onana

Safe with the ball. His first instinct was to turn sideways or back, but acted as a good fulcrum in our build up. Wish he had the arrogance to use the left and right runners when he broke free to keep driving towards goal and smash one himself. Played a decent through ball to Dom but he was always going to get crowded out.

Massive credit to him for following Eze around, particularly first half. Eze tried to drop behind him loads of times, Onana let him drop to avoid collapsing into our backline himself, but stayed aware of where he was so that he could shuffle sideways to make sure there was no straight ball into Eze’s feet. Head on a swivel constantly. Given his awareness of runners and what’s behind him has been his main weakness in the past, he took this responsibility on brilliantly, forcing Eze to get the ball quite a lot, but in much less dangerous areas. Good stuff 👍
Nice to see the kid getting a bit of praise and not getting slagged off for his performance like fans on here can’t wait to jump on him, someone on here a couple of weeks ago said drop him for Gomes who’s better.

He’s 22 a year and a half in the premier league, playing for a struggling side,
Under 2 different managers with different styles and a number of different players around him. Him and James Garner have probably played 15 games together? As a two

I don’t get the hype with Eze, good player but the narrative in the media by some fans and pundits, is he’s a superstar in waiting. I don’t see it

Thought he ran the game last night as our deep lying centre midfielder. Always offering to the centre halves, kept the ball moving side to side, strong in the tackle, lots of interceptions.

People saying that they didn't see anything special from him - get a grip, the point of a number 6 (which he was yesterday, nominally) especially against a park the bus outfit like Palace is to be unnoticeable: keep the ball and stop the counter attack, which he did in abundance.

Really don't understand our fan base sometimes. What do they want the geezer to do, play like Rodri and Bellingham?

Eze is mustard, proper player. He'll do a job on a lot better teams than us this season. But couldn't yesterday, and a lot of that is down to Onana.

Won't be many players who'll come out on top in a midfield battle the way our lad did yesterday

He is a good player and we could really do with someone who is unpredictable like that but he is not a patch on Olise who is the better of the 2 imo.

Very unlikely we could get these players, but 3 similar young players, who play in similar positions, Eze, smith Rowe and Gibbs white, I think I’d have Gibbs white first of the 3

We shouldn't be looking in this country, no value for money in the UK for a club like us, much better shopping abroad.

You made my point. He doesn't need to do anything special to have a really good game. Viera and Keane rarely did anything special or eye catching.

I thought the positions Eze took up were superb, marshalled well by Onana and it is something Palace did to us when we beat then 3-2 (get between the lines), I think there was a bit of planning there and well executed by the player.

was quality last night, which he has been most of the season.

had a dip after that stupid pen, he's young, he'll learn.
Agree think he got a kick up the backside from Dyche after the Wolves game and played very well last night.Terrible red card decision. We were the much better team but finishing let us down again.
