I just don't know how to evaluate it. He gets the ball, motors forward into space, then doesn't know what to do with it.

You can argue that's because all the options are bad, and he has to make a quick decision. If that's the case, though, I would expect him to let it fly from the edge of the box like Demarai Gray, and that doesn't work for him either.

There's a player in there, but no one seems to know how to let it out.
That’s why I watched a bit more keenly yesterday. He didn’t have much trouble finding options when they existed. I put it down to a combo of system and Doucoure being a disgrace to the legacy of the #10 position.

He’s got learning to do, but it’s not all about his personal ability when he plays for us.

I think he'll be the same as Gordon who has proved extremely good value for Newcastle. Having the raw materials is the key thing for a young player and Onana has them all.
How many 'experts' on here were saying Gordon would be great for Newcastle though?

Top baller, really hope he stays

He's very good but his ability on the ball is massively overrated. He's the type of midfielder English people love undoubtedly. I think Arsenal actually played better football with Xhaka in the team though.

I don't think that's true. His vision and passing between the lines isn't his strong point. And Xhaka is much better at passing between the lines. But I watched Rice's training footage before we signed him and he's technically exceptional. He has 17 goal contributions (goals/assists) this season and you can assess the quality for the for yourself:

Arsenal got more points than last season but the weakness this season was Havertz in midfield. Not Rice. If we kept Xhaka and made the same signing while playing Havertz as CF and Xhaka and Rice in midfield we probably win the league. We might not of done though because Havertz confidence was shot to pieces when he joined us. It worries me that Arsenal are linked to signing a striker, which probably means Havertz plays more in midfield.

Obviously Onana’s accent here isn’t the same but it has genuinely brought me back to that video where Joel calls Tom Davies a salad head, Davies call Joel a nonce and then Kevin Mirallas shouts “CHICKEN LAAAAD” in Davies’ face in his best Scouse accent.

Ah Everton, a simpler time.

Gonna need you to dig this one up

Edit: Found.
