I just really don't get the lack of effort argument, I think it's disingenuous. I don't think he's a superstar, said myself he's inconsistent. 100% agree Gueye did show him how it's done, dyche was 100% right to drop him. Cashing in is the best thing we could do, he's really not liked and can understand some of the arguements as to why.
Okay well if suggesting he lacks application is disingenuous then i will just conclude that hes just not very good.

No, they are very different as players. But the "mistakes" and arrogance people like to criticize Onana for, are "flaws" Rodri's game is full of.

The difference is that when City play Haaland, Doku, Foden, De Bruyne, Silva and fuill backs more offensive than any Everton winger in front of Rodri, Rodri gets time and space. And when Rodri does a mistake with the ball, it's 30 or 40 meters further away from City's goal.

A Rodri sitting just in front of the CDs and spending 60 minutes a match in the defensive third, does too many mistakes with the ball for most peoples liking. Rodri wants the ball to his feet. Players that does that makes more mistakes with the ball than those that hides and force the goalkeeper to kick it long every time he has the ball.

Players doing too many mistakes and giving away the ball too often are hardly ever a problem. In good well-coached teams players are encouraged to play with more risk. To trust that the team is set up and organized good enough to make risktaking worthwhile. Taking more risks with the ball is a net plus.

Unfortunately both the press and most fans are always looking for a scapegoat. Someone to blame. Of course, errors and mistakes comes with a price. And it is easy for everyone to see. Easier to see the cost of having players that always play too safe and keep hiding from the ball while being lauded by the fans sub-par performances.

Look at Manchester City. They give away the ball all the time. Often in positions where making mistakes as an absolute no-go. But what they focus on and spend most of the time at training on, is to win the ball back. They run towards the ball when they give it away. Everton players run away from the ball.

Is it Opposite Day?

Sometimes somebody posts something and I think, thats bait, well, thats defo bait.
I have an admittedly out there take that a lot of the tiki taka DMs, think Jorginho who you know I hate, are more a function of a sport where they play in teams of hugely lopsided talent that allows them to do what they do and less what they do actually being incredibly useful. Like Rodri playing for West Ham against a league of West Ham level teams gets no plaudits.

You won’t get this but they’re a bunch of Brock Purdys.

Right, but Rodri is widely regarded as the best DM in the world, maybe not by you, but 95% of the rest of the world.

I get it, everybody could be wrong, but it seems unlikely, would you say?

Regards Onana, he will and does look vastly different in a functioning side and a decent manager, Belgium aint really that, but he is surrounded by quality players and he doesnt look out of place.

We dont see that player for Everton, thats not his fault, for the record.

Rodri is the best DM in the world because the world is sadly one where oil nations run dynastic clubs.

I do not think Rodri is actually the ideal DM in a sport where the playing field for building a team is level. We just don’t have that.

Well he will be after July 14th when Toni Kroos retires.

This is a pretty decent analysis imo
