Yes remember 3 older fellas sat behind me 2 easily in there 60s the other 50 odd they would give Barkley abuse from start to finish regardless of how he played.

The one that stands out most for me is Ross playing well, takes a throw in and gets absolute hate thrown at him from blues, I felt for him. A life long blue gets that what hope anyone else?!
I've shared this before. But was at a game a few years back, not 100% but may have been Swansea at home. Cousin of mine is an Arsenal fan but was in Liverpool with his missus and got a ticket for the game.

Met him afterwards and his first words to me were "Your fans dont half get on Barkleys back". So thats from someone impartial. And i agreed, he was one of creative players and anything he did that didn't come off was met with groans and abuse.

I was at the game against Forrest last year. Was sat behind behind a girl that did nothing but shout abuse at our own players all game. Funny enough it was the girl that the whole controller situation happened with last year.

We have a section of our fanbase that their default mode is negativity and moaning and i think even if we were at the top of the table and challenging for trophies that wouldn't change.

But for the most part we have a fanbase that gets behind the team, but also lets them know their are accountable for their effort and performance. Nothing wrong with that.

Why people get so touchy when anything is questioned abouts our fans i don't know.

So if the Onana situation is true. Its poor professionalism from him, but on a human level would any of us react differently to getting abuse. Particularly on game 1 of the season?

Excellent post

We seem to do it a lot to blues for some reason
Ross, Leon and Gordon spring to mind

"He is paid tens of thousands a week to take the abuse..."

Cos emotions and mental health are beaten by money
yea, cant stand this attitude.
We've had several first team players go public about their mental health issues over the last few years.
When they come out and share their stories, it's clearly in an effort to make supporters aware of the issue.
And while they get some respite, there's no let up for other players.
It was probably more manageable for players back in the day before social media put them in a fish bowl 24/7 but now it's out of hand.
I dont want Maupay playing up front but I don't want him taking any abuse, he worked hard on Saturday.
We're our own worst enemies, I cant gauge whether we're worse than any other fan base.
I have nothing but respect for DCL and Davies who've stuck to their personal guns despite receiving mountains of guff.

Gordon deserved it IMO. Always came across as arrogant and then his displays on the pitch, always falling to the ground, wasting the ball, and then the way he left all speak to me that he felt he was better than he was. Ross / Leon... they tried and wanted to do well.

Fully agree re: Maupay. A lot of fans took against him early and are entrenched in their opinion.

He is paid to score goals though; so working hard and not scoring goals means he is not doing his job.

More likely they’ve had their fears confirmed. Most of us thought he was a terrible signing before he kicked a ball because his record was so poor. It turns out he’s even worse than his stats said he was. A truly terrible player who will leave when his contract runs out, and not before, and will never play top flight football ever again.
