2023/24 Amadou Onana

He did lose his place in the run in so not like he's some undroppable in Dyche's mind. Didn't start the relegation six pointer at Leicester for example.

You could play him as a number 10 but ultimately Doucoure was denied by a very tight offside call and also a Sa wonder save so he's still getting into the positions to score, would Onana?
he has no attributes that make him a good 10

He’d fit in better in the back line. He’d make a better Centre back than a Mid or forward. He’s a taller version of Gueye can intercept a pass and is just as likely to pass it back to the other team or backwards to space. Offers nothing going forward. Lucky preseason tap in Vs stoke hardly a worldie.

Brilliant thread this. Can simply read peoples comments and see how little they understand about midfielders.

For around 12months ive said he needs to be playing as a midfield anchor and partnered with Garner.

Im seeing posters questioning why he:

A: Doesnt play like an attacking midfielder
B: Doesnt have eyes in the back of his head
C: Isnt doing Gana's job (who is finished)
D: Isnt doing things box to box players do

The boy has ALWAYS, I repeat ALWAYS been a midfield anchor. Even Lampard and Dyche have said theyre using him in different midfield roles to "improve his all round game".

A clear MOTM in our first game this season yet there were comments in here about him being dreadful both during and after the game.

Then the Onana-cam was posted on here and those buffoons actually realised he put in an excellent performance.

With better finishing he could and probably should have 4-5 assists already yet -- "we have no one who can pass forward" or "our midfielders cant pass" (note Garner also had the most final 1/3 balls in the villa game of our players and was 4th i think on the pitch.

It is blatently obvious that when you have the likes of Gana and Doucoure alongside and ahead of him he isnt going to be linking up with them.

This is precisely why Garner needs to partner him and why Gnonto would have been ideal to come in for Doucoure.

Its tiring to reach such negative comments from posters who either dont understand football unless on Onana-cam, have some weird agenda or just think magically playing players (like him and Garner) out of position doesnt take some adjustment.

Get behind him. Hes absolutely quality.

So to sum up.. He's essentially flawless and its everyone's else fault?

I know its a game of opinions but Jesus H Christ what have some of you been watching for the last 10-15 seasons? He's young, only been in this league a season and is in a rank, bad team. He played only a handful of games for Lille so he's not a seasoned pro yet some expect him to run a midfield and dominate a game.
He's got bags and bags of potential and is exc=actly what we should be investing in instead of journeymen.
Selling him would be a huge mistake.

A player of "absolute quality " does not hide or become anonymous in a midfield regardless of whether they are played as a 6 or 8.
He doesn't contribute enough to justify the hype of fee.
If the only midfield role he can play is as an anchor then there is no way a club in our financial position can justify such a fee for a DM .

But here is the thing. He might have bags of potential. But he ain't showing it for us. You can be classed as having all the potential in the world, but at some point you.must show it, and be consistent. He isn't showing it and you wouldn't say having him in the team over say Tom Davies makes us a better team. He hasn't shown that, yet.
If somebody came in and said here is 60m of the finest Kings currency, and we could replace him with a decent performer who gives us a 7/10 each week. We would be a much better team, right now.

He may go on to be a world beater, but right now can we carry someone who is not giving it his all, week in week out.
