Wait what? What happened?
Near the end someone was giving him some abuse and he reacted to it. The lad must have good hearing as he was a few yards from the touchline but 3 times at least he told the fan to f off.

P*ss poor from an Everton player to an Everton Fan regardless of what was being said and just as important it showed a complete lack of concentration from Onana as he should have been 100% focused on the game not on the crowd. Especially when were 1 -0 down at the time.

Don’t agree with people abusing players whether our own or not but as you say should be concentrating on the game instead of reacting to anything coming from the stands.

His best is easily the best that anyone in our squad can produce, his biggest challenge is being able to do it across 90 minutes.

Every time he got involved today he produced quality.

Can be a £80m player, but it’s up to him to be able to get involved and want to be involved for a full 90 mins.

As it stands, the game goes by him for way too long.

Created goalscoring opportunities with a couple of beautiful crossfield passes in the first half. Frustrating that he's so peripheral most of the time

Don't you think it's piss poor from the fan to continue to abuse a player not once but 3 times? Absolute animals.

I’m actually an onana fan. He did have a good first half but was more anonymous second half. The point is mainly that you decide on players before things happen. If you like them from the start they either played great or it’s someone else’s fault that they didn’t. If you don’t like them your mind is made up before kickoff (Iwobi today).
Well done.

In fairness mate it is ME that is agreeing with Zat, I think you have to agree I’m worth 30 or so random posters 😉

Judging by the posts, this is a factual statement.

Onana here or not wouldn’t make a blind bit of difference to survival or relegation, he doesn’t affect games to make any difference and his position could be plugged by Gomes and wouldn’t be that big a difference. Especially if a winger and forward was bought with the money or CB and ST

I can’t agree with that at all Gomes is a liability I think people judge onana on what they think he should be instead of what he is the same used to happen with lukaku but doesn’t happen to other players I wonder why. Sorry I should have said this isn’t aimed at you but there’s a lot more people defending Patterson who has actually been awful than defending onana who hasn’t and I don’t think that’s a coincidence honestly.

Yes he is but I still think Gomes playing and a striker and CB or winger coming in would make us stronger than Onana staying here. Gomes would be cover and Garner ideally would fill Onanas position, my main point is Onana has no reflection on relegation or not he didn’t do a lot if anything to help us last season and going off today that pattern is going to continue. In another 3/4 years time he could become a really good player if he can improve on what he has and potentially be worth a few quid more than what we paid, however there’s also a good chance he doesn’t connect the dots he needs to and remains an average player so as it is right now I’d take £50-55m on potential and buy some players I’d actually swap him for Gnonto.

This is what we are dealing with...Gomes ffs.

He’s got all the attributes to be a great player, but he was awful again today.

There’s no way in the world he was awful that’s just silly.

Because he did lots of good things. I thought he had a good game myself but I can accept people saying they expected more from him but I can’t accept that he was awful at all. I’ve seen a lot of performances at Everton that I would say were awful and onana today was not even close to it to say he was is crazy.
A lot of crazy people in here.

Completely anonymous today
He was totally anonymous. He should’ve been brought off in the second half.

When a player was head and shoulder superior to everyone else in the first half....

...but was "anonymous".

I don’t agree but anonymous and awful aren’t the same anyway by any stretch and if you think onana was even the worst player we had today then I’ll be happy to put you on ignore because you must know nothing about football.
Agree.
But anonymous isn’t awful. It’s an absence of anything. Patterson was awful.

Not defending Onana, as I think he should have done much more in the second half, but he was anonymous then. First half, he was okay. Just okay.
lol
i thought that after Leno he was probably the best player on the pitch today?
He was. Its actually making me wonder why people watch football if they couldnt see whats in their face.
100%
He just drifts through games. It’s a shame as he has all the prerequisites to be a terrific footballer. I feel he’s keeping his best for another club.
lol you actually believe this ?
Anonymous is like playing with one less player, that’s what it’s like with Onana. Yet he’s supposed to be a player that can deliver due to the importance of his position, yet he fails to on the majority of his performances. Today was him picking up where he left off last season and it really isn’t good enough.
Football is not for you.
Just sell him as we need the money to buy attacking players and it doesn't look like any are imminent due to us scrimping, saving and looking for freebies. He's our only sellable asset, and actually rarely does anything of note anyway. Certainly has never once threatened to score for us in over a year which is absolutely woeful. To be honest I rarely even notice him on the field as he's mostly just waltzing about letting the game pass him by. A couple of decent passes today in the first half doesn't get him off the hook from me, he was garbage overall as he has been since at least the start of 2022.
A generous take here would be to say thaf you also dont rate Rice, Caicedo or Lavia. You see the big sales numbers and think we can just sign attackers without wondering why these guys are important.
I think the criticism comes from what we all think he could be, but he's not there yet.

I did think some of his passing was very good today though. That has come on a lot since he first arrived. With a competent striker, he probably has an assist today.

Didn't see as many defensive actions from him today, but talk of him being awful or anonymous is mad to me. Thought he was one of our better players, alongside Gueye.
Agreed
played the cross field pass to Doucoure who should have scored / squared it and also played Maupay in through the middle who should have also scored - it wasn’t an all action performance but it certainly wasn’t anonymous
People were enjoying their prawn sandwiches while thinking Iwobi had a good game.
I think I’d rather play a winger on the right, move Garner into the middle and start Onana on the bench as he doesn’t offer anything to improve us right now. He has all the attributes, but he isn’t using them.
You see, this is correct.

Did you see how beautifully Gana linked with Garner today 2nd half? Not at all because it didnt happen.

I know you didnt see Onana and Garner exchanging passes but those two were in sync together and they should be the midfield pairing.

I think Garner would be more effective there but he’d also be more effective replacing Patterson and that might be the more urgent requirement. He deffo shouldn’t be on the right long term but who else would you put there right now?

Can’t believe* we’re having conversations like this after the first match. Feels like last season never ended, just kept rolling on.

*I can believe it. BK’s still stinking the place out.

Young can play rb … garner should be in the middle of the pitch. He’s the best passer we have by a mile and we need him on the ball as much as possible
