2023/24 Amadou Onana

Ideally you play him as the 10. Gana of course infront of back 4 intercepting counters and then Garner as the continuity 8 type.

However Doucoure has been one of the successes of the Dyche reign so far and while we all know his limitations on the ball he gets on the end of stuff and is a reasonable scoring threat (certainly more than Onana).

So Onana is being asked to play the role that should be given to Garner.

If Moyes was here I bet he'd play him as CF and morph him into Fellaini. Couldn't be any worse than Maupay.
Im thinking 10 would be the best place for him currently.

Might be a way of getting him involved more.

I do wonder what the club think of his performances when analysed. He had a few games on the bench last year when he hadn’t shown enough to start. The same would happen now if he had to miss a few weeks with a knock, he wouldn’t automatically walk back in. Shocking mix of the club not knowing where/how to play him, and him still not knowing AT ALL how to use any of his undoubted gifts to affect a game of football positively.

He wasn’t awful, he was okay. But he was lax defensively, slow in congested areas a couple of times, no goal threat at all, but pulled off a couple of beautifully weighted well spotted passes. That’s the exact match write-up you’d get for Andre Gomes. Capable of so much more.

I think thats what frustrates me.

You seem him ping a pass, you see him close down players and win the ball back, but then you watch him casually stroll around the park for 30minutes till he pings another pass.

Its like hes playing within himself.

I will go as far as to say work rate is the only issue stopping him from becoming an outstanding midfielder regardless of which position he plays in. DM, CM, AM doesn’t matter, he must have a good work rate.

All top midfielders work hard to get involve and influence the game. Strolling around is Schneiderlin level of career he will end up as.

Give him a forward with decent movement and he'll find them.

Hate being 1 of those fans Dave, but I spent a lot of yesterdays game watching him and he simply doesnt attempt to get involved in the game enough, it passes him by for vast quantities of time.

He does some very good things, hence why even his biggest distractors are saying things like "Sell for 50m", nobody thinks hes a bad player.

I want to see him take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate it, I think hes able.

I think he knows how good he is and wont get into too many situations where an injury could hamper his career. He's better than Everton are right now, for sure. But if we get a forward in who can stretch a defence he'll be worth having in the team this season if he stays as he'll put decent balls into areas for others to get on the end of and score.

The option of Garner in the middle limits us to keeping possession, because Garner circulates the ball rather than does anything too dramatic with it.

Imagine if he had Jimmy Gs work rate tho, he would be a monster.

Carved Fulham open with that pass into Maupay yesterday and his mid-range passing was very good.

Last season gave him a sighter, this season he'll show the PL what he can do.
Thought he was our best player yesterday be some way.
Some of the clowns around me giving him grief all through the game.
It's no wonder we struggle to attract really good young talent - the stick they get is pathetic.

They're the type that are impressed by passing percentages...without any regard as to the effectiveness of those passes.
