If that’s the case I don’t want him anywhere near our midfield, you can’t be timid playing midfield in the PL because you’re scared of being injured.
I think he'll go for aerial challenges but maybe wont be going in for 50-50 challenges on the deck.

Bear in mind that there'll be a lot of forces inside and outside the club advising this lad that he's here maybe 1 more season max.

He's a great asset for another season but only if we get a forward who can make runs that can benefit from his passing and link up play.

I think thats what frustrates me.

You seem him ping a pass, you see him close down players and win the ball back, but then you watch him casually stroll around the park for 30minutes till he pings another pass.

Its like hes playing within himself.
He's a kid, he's made a massive step up every year for the past 3 years. That has prevented him from having a proper pre season anywhere until this year. Make allowances for that and give him a chance. He was often our best player last season in an absolutely abysmal team in a new country at 20 years of age.

His ceiling is far higher than ours at the moment, it hurts me to say.

A full season in PL is enough to be a grown up. Lukaku, Fellaini all were around the same age when we got them.

Onana on debut made the Toure like run like a tank into the Villa box which led to Digne scoring an OG. Where are those runs?

I can accept him making errors trying to showcase his talent because he is a kid and needs better decision making skills. But when he goes into comfort zone for 30 odd minutes that's what concerns me. He needs to take more accountability in the middle of the park and not wait for an opportunity for that stretched right leg tackle and one outrageous pass attempt.

Seems like his display yesterday polarised opinions.
The talent is definitely there. I hope the coaches are working hard to bring him to elite level. The videos from sections of the game, to help him agree a couple of even better if style targets would help. I wonder if Ducoure's role, being the man to break from midfield means that Onana is instructed to play a more defensive role.

Big season for Amadou. Looks right now like he will be staying. For me he needs to show improvement. Potential is there but the biggest thing is decision making in certain situations.
He needs to know when to take the game by the scruff of the neck and he also needs to choose better moment when to shoot.

Letting one fly on his left on the volley from 40 yards is highly likely to miss and just give possession back to the opponent. Hopefully this is worked on
Good points and for me, with his skill he needs to be visible on the Park, for the 100 minutes of the match.

He becomes invisible for periods of every game. To realise his potential, and to help Evertons cause, in what will be a very tough season, this must start at Villa.

UTFTs!

literally played well for about 2mins in total
Spot on, he goes missing in every game.
The midfield then gets over run.
Pre season there were big spaces between defence and attack. Gana is left to do all the scrapping for the ball.

The midfield then becomes a vacant space. I'd like to see Garner play more central than wide and help make the midfield more cohesive.

Let Duke get forward but keep the shape, for offense and defence.

This is how I see it. Ducoure is playing in the number 8 role and that is what we all want to see from Onana. He's a box-to-box player, who is playing no. 6. So he's not being played correctly.

Need to switch the roles of Doucs and Onana imo.

At Lille he was playing no. 8. Not sure on his position for Belgium, tbh.

He's a lot taller than most of us so you would expect this
