2019/20 Andre Gomes

It was a horrible, snide, cowardly challenge. He didn't know that it was going to do what it did, but his sole intention was to hurt Gomes as retribution for a previous coming together. His reaction was undoubtedly in no small part due to the fact that he knew he'd been reckless, and that actually it wasn't 'one of those things' but rather a direct consequence of him being a petulant little beaut. Absolutely no sympathy for the bloke whatsoever.
Absolutely and to read Coleman went to the Spurs dressing room to console him after he should have been going in there to throw hands. No doubt he went out to do Gomes, now he didn't mean it to be as bad as it was but he went out to do him no question.

On the same theme, in hindsight, when looking at Mina's fall that took Son's legs away, if Son hadn't acted swiftly and got his legs out of the way then he might have suffered an ankle injury himself. Whether he did it for that reason, or just to get a penalty, no one but Son will know. The irony of course is that he survived and ended up being complicit in Andre's horrific injury.

Just watched this again, Son deliberately planted his leg in the way of Mina to ensure contact, it was a cynical attempt at a penalty and a ludicrous dive worthy of a card......

I hope both Son and Aurier will keep in mind before causing another reckless tackle
Poor chaps they try to look sorry but they asked for it and now they will have to live with it

I think looking at the incident again - Son deserved a yellow, as it was a foul in retribution for the earlier incident. Unfortunately the foul knocked Andre off balance and also meant that Aurier's subsequent tackle was mistimed, resulting in the horror that followed.

so my verdict is yellow card for Son - and I don't hold Aurier at fault for what followed - he was already commited to the tackle but could not compensate for Andre being knocked off balance.

You have to put it in context here - it wasn't like the Roy Keane - Inge Haarland challenge. Keane should have been sent down for that as it was ABH.

If the ref had already booked Son for the simulation to try and get a penalty, that tackle wouldn’t even have happened as he knew he would get an additional yellow.....

I couldn't look at what happend, (if there was any replay) but reading the statement from the Club, it says fracture dislocation, checked some wiki articles on that, damn it sounds terrible. speedy recovery, top lad.

I feel desperately sorry for him and can only wish him well and hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

It is a physical game played at speed and sometimes these things happen.

I don't know what Son intended but it certainly wasn't for Andre to get an injury of that magnitude.

The sad fact is, son will have the ban retracted and more than likely won't miss a game,
Gomes is likely out for at least 12 months down to a [Poor language removed] house tackle

Christ, some horrific posts in here.

If I could be bothered going to the vaults, I bet I’d find loads of posts from people decrying Son’s “snide” challenge, wishing our players were a bit more snide themselves.

YES, he absolutely wanted to trip him and defo should have got a yellow but he couldn’t have had any clue about how it was to end up. If every player thought through the consequences of every challenge - snide or not - they were about to make, to its worst conclusion there’d be no more tackling in the game.

Red card SHOULD be rescinded, because it was only given due to the outcome of the challenge and not the challenge itself.

I absolutely feel sorry for Son, because that and feeling sorry for Gomes are not mutually exclusive, believe it or not.
