Your right you know. Everton can be like the proverbial rolling stone. We won't be gathering no moss. I think once one or two names develop into signings Davey will be next. His footprint is very important.(y)
 
sure 12 million may be a profit, but a) with inflation its not that much, and b) its really not that great of a deal if we immediately shell it all out and then some on another striker, one who i doubt will perform much better than AJ would have for us.

AJ is not a bad striker, and it seems dumb to sell him just to buy a comparable player, and risk the new guy no settling in with the squad etc.
 
We'd have to buy a piss poor player to not improve on AJ's goals to games ratio. Less than 1 in 3 since he's been here so with DM's acumen in the transfer market i think we'll defo make an improvement.

Darren Bent has regularly scored 20 a season before he started warming the Spurs bench and i'm sure there are some hidden gems in europe to be found at a lesser price, Blackburn picked up Roque Santa Cruz for 3.5m

Looks like he took a page out of the "David Moyes Bargain Bin Transfer Guide" on that one.

What do you think they could get for Santa Cruz right now if they wanted to sell him?

I'd guess around the same for AJ if not a bit more. 10-15M.

20 a season for charlton... not too impressive, of course he's going to have a lot of goals when he's the only one scoring them. same thing with ipswich the season they got relegated, and i'd be curious to find exactly how many of those goals actually effected results, versus scoring the 2nd goal in a 2-5 defeat etc.

with AJ he was limited to many substitute appearances last season, and i think that undoubtedly hurt his morale a bit. nonetheless, he did stay somewhat positive, and i'm sure he could have turned things around had he stayed here.

moyes is probably making a good decision for the future of the team, and we don't really know what's happening behind the scenes, but i'll still be sad to see him go.
 
Could be the substitution bit, could be the stigma of the penalty claims from the Palace days, Could be his frame going up against giants in defense. Davey has understood his confidence wained in front of goal but never waived on his desire and running. I for one was glad he played for us and deliverd so much for us. But when Yak came you could see the bubble bursted a bit. Good money overall and hopefully we dive in right away and invest wisely with it.(y)

I would say 8.6m wasn't really good value for money. Almost £400,000 per goal, not fantastic. I don't buy all this pony about him running around and doing a shift. That's what they get paid for. We need a striker with intelligence, otherwise we may as well have re-signed Jeffers or Cadarmarteri.

Stupid Move!

I think we are going to be hurt by the loss of AJ! His pace kept people on their heels and gave Yakubu and Vic time to score. I think this was a stupid move of us to let him go! So disappointing! He might not have scored as many goals as we liked, but he gave the rest of the team the opportunity!
