Who was the last player we bought from the championship(im not counting godfrey) ? Exactly the player's we should be looking at... Bowen was another one a while back

Been a while since we signed players from the championship. I don't get it. It's what we always did well as a club. I'd like to know the reasons to be honest, because we seem to prefer spending tens of millions of overrated, technical players from slow continental leagues

OK.
Not sure if you noticed, but we only spent 300k this summer (over a 4 or 5 year contract) which is maybe why we weren't in for him

Well if we had been actually willing to move players on and overhaul the squad, then we obviously could have afforded him. We literally just blew like 30m on full backs who can't make the side. We could have made the deal happen.

The refusal to sign championship players has been one of the most bizarre things of the Moshiri period. Do they not watch the lower leagues or something, or do they feel those players are beneath us?

benrahma, watkins, toney and buendia were players that i would have had here but those championship players now cost between 20-30 mil plus addons in this day and age
Yeah they do cost more these days but there are some bloody good players in that league who could easily do a job for us whether its in the team or just as squad players and they would be more 'game ready' than a lot of the foreign lads we have wasted money on in the past.

I was probably being a bit more facetious than was necessary.
Yes, our transfer policy under Moshiri has been substandard for sure. I think part of that is a pride thing - signing 3 players from Barcelona is a lot sexier than signing 3 players from Reading or Leyton Orient. But I also think part of it was going for ready made players with experience at top clubs hoping that it would bring instant success. Of course that hasn't happened, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I remember how excited people on here were when we signed Andre Gomes, with many willing to convert to homosexuality just to stroke his beard, now he is flavour of the month for everyone looking for a scapegoat.
And who knows, maybe next year the guy from Reading for 6M will be the scapegoat for Palace fans

Did we? I can think of one or two but not enough to say it was ever really a strategy.

On topic, I can only really repeat what i've said before, I like the lad's attitude and he's not without ability, but when you're one of the main attacking outlets and the team has 1 goal in 5 games (and you weren't involved in it) then you have to take your fair share of the blame. 21 isn't that young that you just get a free pass.

Lescott, Jagielka, Cahill, Baines.... Even Beckford got 10 goals in a season.

On Gordon, I agree he isn't scoring enough goals and his final ball isn't really good enough right now. But I don't think we can argue he doesn't deserve to play either. We just need to hope he starts adding the goals, because we can't afford to play a front 3 with players who have little or no goal threat. I think his main issue is he doesn't gamble into the box when the ball is on the opposite side. He chooses to stay wide or go to the edge of the box. That's not what we need - we need him constantly running into the 6 yard area. I think you can probably level the same criticism at Richarlison this year too in fairness. His goal return hasn't been anywhere near good enough.

Baines was a PL player when we signed him and Jagielka had played his most recent season in the PL so if he counts then so do Godfrey and Doucoure.

I agree on Gordon, too much of his work is done in areas that aren't particularly dangerous, we need to change that.

Id like to see him playing through the middle just off the striker, I'm not sure he has enough to be playing out wide.

Only player in the side I trust to perform at the moment and is leading by example with his energy, quality, and bravery. Thought towards the end of the game yesterday he seemed to lose a bit of faith, which is a worrying sign.

If he starts to give up as well then we are truly effed

Yeah I'd thought the same but I was disappointed with him when he was in more central areas against Newcastle. At least out wide there's a bit more space for him and if he beats his man things open up for him, against Newcastle he got caught up in the congestion in midfield and never really found any space. Obviously that's a very limited sample size so i'm not saying i've changed my mind on it but I do just think he needs to find a bit more if he's going to be a key player for us in any position. His willingness is great and some little flashes (that turn on the half way line yesterday was exquisite) hint at real potential, but ultimately he's got to actually produce the goods at some point.

Needs to stop his stupid dives, he doesn’t even do it naturally. The refs are getting on to it and it’s gonna work against him. He is the type of player who will get fouled a lot but he’ll end up with a reputation and not getting what he should.

He looks more of a threat in the middle doesn't he. He's a ball carrier that we don't have and I think personally would put a shift in midfield to offer legs.

Especially if Lamps keeps wanting a 2 man midifield, I'd definitely have him as the 10, Richy and Gray outwide with Dom up top.

An 8m deal on a 4 or 5 year contract costs like 2m per year tops in the accounts
But it doesnt, its a total myth, clubs still need to buy the players and the selling club isnt giving you 5 year terms.

An 8m transfer, plus Agent fees, signing on fee, wages, you're looking at an outlay of around 25million.

I think he will be some player personally.
He’s on his own out there and still relatively young
That turn in the middle of the pitch was quality at the start of the game.
Always wants the ball and never hides
My first player on the team sheet. Don’t understand the negativity towards him. Hope he proves some of the numpties on here wrong.
