2021/22 Anthony Gordon

I think that's a bit sensationalist tbh. He was asking the boss what he needed to improve to be picked. If you at your job was passed over constantly for projects or promotions, wouldn't you ask your superior what you needed to work on to be considered? "banging on Ancelottis door DEMANDING an explanation"?

If anything look at the full picture, wanted to know why he wasn't involved, was told why, went away and worked his arse off to improve on what he was told, came back and became central to the team.

I'm fully expecting Gordon to kick on again from last season and prove what a player he is and can be. He's got the right mentality and drive. You can see it, the way he plays. He'll be determined to fill that void left by the sale of Richarlison. He'll be firing!
It’s that mentality and drive
You look at someone like Iwobi, big improvement last season and still young - do I have faith he’ll kick on again? Not really.
Gordon though, I bet he’s spent all his holiday working on things, watching videos etc. to be the best he can be. He seems the type, a winner.

Why are people mad about this? You could replace his contribution to the team last year for a third of that fee.

35 million? I’d sell.
I wouldn’t not to Newcastle anyway losing one of our only players to come through in recent years to Newcastle would depress me I believe he has the ability to be a good squad player if nothing else I’m also hopeful he can have another good season and reach that next level. Imagine Richarlison and Gordon both going arguably are 2 best players last season apart from Pickford who’s crucial performances also saved us.

Nope.

I still think he was foolish/naïve to go banging on Ancelotti's door demanding an explanation why he wasn't involved vs Spurs. As he acknowledged, as I said January last year;

His time at Everton still also does remind me of Kieran Dowell. Don't forget, Dowell is only 3 years older - won the world cup with England U20s/was hitting double figures for Forest in the Championship at 19. For a period, fans had huge hopes around Dowell. "Why did we loan him out" etc.

Gordon has benefitted from game time/exposure from being in a god awful Everton team but Ancelotti managed him perfectly. He wasn't ready to be starting games then - which he later admitted himself. Later, Benitez said the same thing - he wasn't fit enough to play/Gordon again, agreed.

Even now I think he has a bit of Deulofeu/sparrow lungs about him. He's continuing to work on that, and like everyone is now saying - if his final ball comes he could be a tremendous player. If it doesn't, he goes into a long line of decent players.
This is very well said. The lad was one of the better attackers in a team that almost got relegated. He’s also not some incredibly young player either. Hes 21, if we were after Dwight McNeil for £35m there’d be uproar, riots in the streets type of reaction, yet he’s only a couple months older than Gordon.

All I’ll say is people couldn’t wait to have a midfield headed up by Tom Davies after a decent few months, now he’s easily overstated his welcome and is worth a fraction of what he was just a couple years ago. It’s very rare that a young player comes through any academy to be good enough to play for the first team of a club chasing Europe, unless they’ve got mega academies like United. Players can come through and play for poor sides far easier.

It’s another case of bias in favour of academy lads, if Davies and Gordon weren’t acadmey players they wouldn’t be wanted near the squad at all. Even Kenny who was objectively not up to the level got offered a sentimental contract after having literally less than 5 good games for Everton is his career.

Do you REALLY think a teenager would go to CARLO FN ANCELOTTI and DEMAND an explanation? This isn't some no-mark who players can't figure out why they are even there like Silva, it's Ancelotti. Even if he was full of himself, of which he doesn't seem to be ever in his interviews or anything, would it not be more likely than not that he asked Carlo about it and some sensationalist headline is more catchy?

*edit* just going to quantify it, I get that's how you see things, I respect that. I just can't imagine the lad banging on Carlo Ancelottis door like is reported. If he was someone like Lingard or Pogba with a huge ego I could see that. Just doesn't make sense to me.

You, nor I know the lad.

You, nor I know exactly what happens at Finch Farm.

A very credible report/journo claimed it happened, which Ancelotti then acknowledged, followed by a PR spin piece on the official website.

That's what I commented on at the time, and commenting on now because it was bumped.

Long time ago that though, the more pressing debate is the apparent £35m offer on the table for the lad.

Even if Everton wanted to take that offer, if I'm him I stay because he's guaranteed the game time here. He could be sat on his arse within 1 transfer window there.

Why are people mad about this? You could replace his contribution to the team last year for a third of that fee.
Because we think he’ll get better
His fitness and strength will continue to develop because of his age and the right coaching
His skill is there
His pace is there
What he needs is experience and a bit of calmness and awareness to pick the right pass or finish first time.
These are coachable, the raw talent he has is already there.
If he plays most games and doesn’t double his G/A tally next season I’ll be disappointed
