2022/23 Anthony Gordon

Unfortunately Everton turned him until what he is now. They told him he'd made it as our new superstar, so when he turned up for pre-season training with his picnic blanket trousers and updated highlighted locks, he thought he owned the place and was the second coming of Cristiano Ronaldo.

In fact, even Rooney wasn't as hyped as Gordon, although I think we must add there wasn't social media back then.

Anything north of £25m cash would be amazing business. If we could rob Newcastle of £35m or more it would probably be the best business we've ever done.
Rooney had 10 times the hype of Gordon, and from a much younger age.
No one has had anywhere near his hype since.

No doubt I'll be in the minority here but I'll be gutted to see him go, I think he'll progress nicely at the horse punchers, all the pressure off him, joining a team that's doing well already and with a genuine feel good factor / positive environment, - A section of our fans seem to hold him to a higher standard than any other players in the squad just because he's a local lad, he gets more grief than he deserves and I do kind of get it, it's because of the desperate situation we're in as a club, but ultimately he cost us nothing and it's disproportionate.

People on twitter saying he's trash and they'd take 20 mil all day, snap their hands off etc, who the hell are we getting in to replace him with one week of the window left? If he's so poor why have 3 top half prem clubs been tracking him.

Real low point for me seeing him hit by that roadblock BS the other week.
Dont rate him what does he do for the team no goals or assists from him most of the time. Agree tough to replace as we have left it late but should have let him go before this. Just never got the hype with him

A young lad being mocked for his fashion sense. Unless you can point to facts I can't see a thing Gordon has done wrong

Even at his most confident last season he was ballooning crosses out of the stadium and putting corners directly out for a goal kick.

And yet it seems some serious clubs want to pay a big fee for him and he was one of our players of the year.

If and when he goes I hope the little rats that abused him are happy. It was always pure jealousy.

If we can get a deal done for £50m that would be incredible. Bielsa then might fancy it as he could buy 3 decent players of his own who can run and are arsed about putting a shift in. Ideally a striker and a creative type above all else.

Would change my mind that we’re 100% relegated to an optimistic we’re 98% relegated.

Newcastle bought Chris Wood for £25m so not sure what point you’re trying to prove here.

£35m rising to £50m with the significant FFP implications would make this a brilliant deal.

Would provide the Club with a war chest to go and get two forwards, a LB and an attacking midfielder in the last week of this window.

Make it happen Kev.

Agree with all that but a right back is just as much a priority as a left back.

I mean Rooney was very hyped mate.

Was on a decent run until Chelsea came along and completely destabilised him. At that time, the majority on here wanted to keep him, yet now, for many, he is the poster boy for this seasons failings.
It's best he leaves for all parties, but the treatment of the lad from some, just doesn't sit right with me.

Correct Catcher. Evertonians knew very early doors. I remember him being a sub away at Southampton, came along the pitchside for a warm-up during the game to receive a loud chant of 'ROONEY ROONEY', he was 16 - then pre-season a friendly against Queens Park at Hampden Park, we won 6-0 and he got a hat-trick (aged 16). There were 2 'arl Glaswegian 'arl fellas sat in front of me talking, "Who's this wee lad?", and I told them they'd hear a lot more about him in the future. The Arsenal goal, the England debut, scoring for England. Rooney was on a totally different level to Gordon!

That's very true.

It's funny how memory plays tricks on people. Rooney was massively hyped by us, and in honesty when you look at what he achieved, completely fairly.
