Are we a one man team?

How can you state that as fact though? Lukaku's injury record is impeccable.

If they aren't going to lose one or more of those 3 then we're not going to lose Lukaku.

Unless you're saying lose as in sell in which case that's just stating the obvious.
They're getting CL football and our on extended contracts. That's why they wont have the problem we are having with Lukaku.

Good thread.

I presume your point here isn't so much the contribution Lukaku makes, which is excellent, more the lack of contribution from elsewhere.

Only Barkley, and he stuttured for a month or two, has made a siginificant contribution. But Koeman seems to have brought him on over the last few months.

Apart from Barkley our attacking options mostly involve Mirallas, Bolassie, Lookman, Davies ( ? ), Valencia and Calvert-Lewin. Three of them are new to the Premier League this season, one's on loan, one is crocked and Mirallas has always been a bit inconsistent.

I would expect most of Barkley, Lookman, Calvert-Lewin and Davies to improve next season, but, whether Rom stays or goes, I'd say we need someone else in as an attacking option, either an out and out attacker or someone with a bit of guile in their boots.
If Lukaku goes it will be such a shock to the system deployed here at the club for four seasons that those players you see weighing in with goals to compensate Lukaku's loss would have to take on a lot more responsibility than they are used to or maybe capable of (Bolasie is a terrible finisher, for example, and his assists aren't all that either).

Probably already stated here but you would have to lay the same question at the feet of Spurs with Kane also. We play to Lukaku's strengths but that's not the same as being a one man team. Ross Barkley and to a lesser extent Idrissa Geuye have been as influential for us.

Why not? Dont other "realistic" CL chasing clubs have more than one quality striker? Surely such a club can attract one and pay for one?
They do if they are prepared to gather splinters like Son at Spurs. The only reason he's on today is Kane is injured...and he wants away.
Bony was the same at City .
Rooney will be the same from now on.

Its actually why Rom moved from Chelsea in the first place.

If Lukaku goes I don't expect Koeman/ Walsh to be trying to sign a like for like replacement. We'd probably still play in a similar manner, but I doubt we'd be so reliant on one player.

As a striker, Lukaku is unusual in today's game because he seems pretty much indestructible, which means coaches, perhaps subconsciously, rely on him more than they would other strikers.

If he goes, Walsh and Koeman will have to earn their wages.

He's played in 24 games in the PL this season.

I dont see how. The whole team is set up to fashion him with chances. If he leaves we will need a facsimile to avoid the overhaul of the whole way of playing our football. And tbh I think Koeman will be up for that. The way we play right now is not pure Koeman. It's a hybrid between the effort he requires and the particular technical ability of the players he's inherited.
