It was a trick answer, cos its not possible for ANY manager in world football to finish lower than 7th with the group of players available at Everton, it would take a special breed of failure to get such a squad of players to finish 11th, twice.

As I keep saying David, I want Everton to compete in every game we play, in 2 seasons I would expect a European adventure, given the amount of funding that will be available to him, so top 7 or a trophy, within 24months.

But I wont be calling for his head if he doesnt achieve it.

I gave Martinez 2 and a half years to get it right, 5 transfer windows.

Koeman will be afforded the same leeway by me.

If hes still here in 3 years and we havent improved and got back to the "best of the rest" spot that Moyes got us to then maybe questions need asking. Martinez followed an excellent manager, who drilled the team how to defend and win matches, Koeman has been left a squad that has been utterly neglected and abused on a professional level for 2 years. Its going to take time to heal the evil.
Lol.

Martinez didn't need two seasons - he did it one...and the squad bequeathed to him by Hoofmeister weren't fit for purpose, he had to shape them into players that could pass and move about. They were drones.

My point is not to bring RM up, it's to maintain that Koeman can and should get the job done here in one season as far as a EL place is concerned. If he fails to get it he has to do it in season two or win a cup to avoid being on the end of a shoeing.

1 Pep Guardiola (New) Manchester City £15m (3 year deal set to start in 2016-17 season
2 Jose Mourinho(new) Manchester United £13.8m (3 year deal with option to extend to fourth year)
3 Carlo Ancelotti(new) Bayern Munich £9m (signed a 3 year deal to remain at Bayern till 2019)
4 Arsene Wenger Arsenal £8.30m (signed a 3 year deal in May 2014)
5 Zinedine Zidane Real Madrid £8m (2 and half year deal)
6 Jurgen Klopp Liverpool £7m (3 year deal)
7 Antonio Conte (new) Chelsea £6.5m (3 year deal from 2016-17 season)
8 Luis Enrique FC Barcelona £7m
9 Mauricio Pochettino(new deal) Tottenham £5.5m (signed 5 year extension till 2021 season)
10 Rafael Benitez Newcastle United £4.5m (signed a three year deal after newcastle were relegated)
...so where does Koeman's £6M fit in? 9th according to that.

As I said, Martinez was left a finely drilled squad and got lucky with Lukaku, Koeman has been left players such as Arouna Kone and McGeady.

He gets 12months grace to try and make our players back into footballers.

So he finished 5th with a squad that wasn't good enough, but 11th twice after having time.

Was Roberto thinking the aim was to get relegated ?

Interesting times ahead...no doubt the Wenger situation at Arsenal has had an affect on his managerial mindset; I just wonder in what way.
Koeman does well here anytime in the next 2 seasons: Koeman leaves. Koeman doesn't justify that big wage and whatver spending he has in the next 2 seasons: Koeman leaves. That's the way I see it.

I'd say that's fair mate. I expect Koeman to get us top 6 this year, at the very least next year. Plus I reckon he will win us a trophy in that period.

I think he is under no illusion on what we expect hence why the majority of time he talks about winning and how important winning is. It may take him a season to get us playing his way but he will set us up to win games along the way.
