2023/24 Ashley Young

Seriously, i missed when Patterson:
-got sent off in the first half,
-tried to clear a ball from the goal line straight onto an attacker, and
-scored an own goal on a ball he saw coming from a decent distance away.

Young has done these things in his first 10 league games.

Our first signing in January has to be a new rightback.

Young and Patterson are not good enough and Coleman is close to retirement.

Well. If you want to know why Harrison had his weakest game yet and why Mitoma was skinning us all game, it’s because everyone was covering for Ashley Young’s man. It was a fluky goal sure. But they exposed our weakest player all game. Dyche got what he deserved for starting him.

Deflections happen but there are serious limitations when you're using a 38 year old against teams like Brighton. You're always going to forfeit any chance of getting on the front foot.

Don't think he was at fault for the own goal, could easily have happened to Patterson or any of our other defenders.

Definitely needed to be swapped for Patterson or at least push him up to right wing like we did at Burnley, might have prevented Mitoma getting in that sort of position in the first place.

The good news is that Seamus is almost back to start.

Young can sit it out until Coleman gets injured (obviously hopefully that won't happen).

Yep. For better or worse we need to be building some continuity with Patterson in the team. This is a season for the future not the present. Ashley Young is the worst of both worlds- he is neither an improvement or an investment.

Solid game til that point against one of the most dangerous wingers in the league. No fault on the own goal. Hopefully steps back now to cover for Seamus as and when needed til the end of the season.
