Baines's reduced role

So what could he have done more for you this season? He's got 7 assists, chipped in with a few goals.

I think we need to remember that whilst his time with pienaar was easy on the eye, Baines has continued year on year producing the goods.

under Moyes we had an unhealthy setup of basing our game around Baines, now the load is shared and we are a far more balanced outfit. Imo this has nothing to do with Baines himself, who again, is proving this year that he is the best left back in the league.

I know he's good, I never said otherwise, IMO, he's just slightly less good than he used to be and may well still be the naughtiest LB in the League...everybody peaks, maybe not a lot, but they do...He has.

How is it? That's the attitude that has us stuck with the likes of Hibbert on the wage bill. Football's ruthless, if a player isn't performing then they need to be moved on.

Hibbert has proved himself useful when he's played this season, after recovering from a bad injury, and it looks like Ossie is doing the same. Their combined wages might be not quite enough to pay Lukaku for a week, so its been worth having them.We are a team in transition on the pitch and Martinez vision of his best eleven/squad is nowhere near realisation yet, give it another season at least. We are already getting to the stage were in most positions(I said MOST, not all) we have cover which includes an up and coming player and an experienced older player. This is part of Martinez long term plan, but of course the most impatient animal in the world is a football supporter.

Leighton Baines is our best full back since Ramon Wilson, Wilson signed for us in 1964 at the age of 30, we all know what he did for us in'66,
he finished with us in 1969. Oviedo and Garbage should leave asap.

The fact that there is still a question mark over who takes the pens is ridiculous after the Mirallas scenario.

I think Rom is on pens because he is close to 20 goals this season and Bobby recognises the inportance of keeping him motivated by scoring every game of given the chance. Baines is still number 1 left back for me.

Baines is the best attacking full back we have ever had. His assists, free kicks and penalties have been great. Just needs to learn how to defend and jump for a header. Same applies to Coleman.

I would kept Garbutt in the team, and tried Baines in midfield left side , and drifting into the middle to let Garbutt forwards on the overlap to whip in those lovely crosses imo!

Even that's a massive understatement. Martinez has 5 or 6 who automatically go on the team sheet. For the rest he puts all the names into a bag and draws them out. How else would he have put out that side tonight?

I've got lots of patience if I can see signs of improvement, signs that even if performances are not that great i can see what a manager is trying to do. Fact is, there's absolutely nothing showing itself in the last 5 months, nothing at all. The conclusion? RM has to go.

Just checked your post history and, sorry if I have missed it, but haven't seen you say what side you would have wanted.

It is all very well saying that "x" starting and "y" subs would have made the difference but the manager doesn't get the benefit of hindsight.

Alcaraz for Stones is the most obvious change but who knows what Stones was like in training. He might be fit for an emergency 30 min performance but not a 90mij possibly 120minute one.
