Beer, revisited

Some of the worst hangovers I`ve ever had, have come from " red / reddish " beers.

It`s deffo some kind of additive to get the colour that causes the damage.
Tannins give the colour to your darker beers
"Congeners are associated with more severe hangovers. Congeners are chemical by-products of the fermentation process that gives alcoholic drinks their distinctive flavours. Some common congeners include methanol, tannins and acetaldehyde.
Congeners are found in higher concentrations in darker drinks, such as bourbon, whiskey and red wine.
Clear spirits, such as vodka and gin, have comparatively lower concentrations of congeners. In fact, vodka has almost no congeners at all."

That explains a lot ;)

The news we've all been waiting for, well, at least I have. :celebrate: :pint2::pint2:

lol lol
The study ran into certain difficulties. Some participants weren’t able to consume all the alcohol required and had to be excluded, some had such high tolerance levels that they experienced no hangover symptoms; and some were sidelined because they insisted on topping up the dose by heading for the bar, researcher Markus Metsala told local media.

All German beers are brewed to the purity laws , Reinheitsgebot

I was told the best beer for hangovers is the Kristallweizen

On the nights where I switch from beer to gin I always find I'm grateful for it the next day

I convinced my wife to move to New Zealand if we ever win the lottery. So I jumped down a rabbits hole of NZ beers. Theres a loooot of them still there from when I was last there almost 20 years ago and definitively recall not being that good. Then I figured if I won the lottery I could just get the beers I want shipped to me direct. I felt better about the whole prospect.

Only that small matter of winning the lottery left then!

First bevvy out in 6 months. Fairly standard pale ale Iin a slightly hipster bar.... its marvellous.
I never trust a cloudy beer.
In the old days, you would send it back. Old-timers would tell you don't drink that son, give you the trots.
Seems to have stuck with me anyway despite this trend for homebrew types being somehow trendy.
Stick with your grandad beliefs for me.
Also, hate wide-brimmed glasses.

Just found this beer thread. It's great.
Why do most bars, when you ask for a draught bitter serve it in the widest glass that they have.?
It's my pet hate. The pint always goes flat.
I will swap it for a Carling glass or a tall slim one.
They ( barpersons ) always look at me and nod their head while walking away.
