As someone who's worked in the industry most of my life off and on, including time in a brewery, I can say with some confidence that may well have been sage advice some years ago but in the highly varied and vibrant beer culture of today is largely irrelevant.I never trust a cloudy beer.
In the old days, you would send it back. Old-timers would tell you don't drink that son, give you the trots.
Seems to have stuck with me anyway despite this trend for homebrew types being somehow trendy.
Stick with your grandad beliefs for me.
Also, hate wide-brimmed glasses.
Did you ever get to Mac's brewery on the harbour side in Wellington? Lovely spot for a a couple of jars that.I convinced my wife to move to New Zealand if we ever win the lottery. So I jumped down a rabbits hole of NZ beers. Theres a loooot of them still there from when I was last there almost 20 years ago and definitively recall not being that good. Then I figured if I won the lottery I could just get the beers I want shipped to me direct. I felt better about the whole prospect.
Only that small matter of winning the lottery left then!
Sounds nice that mate, let us know a bit more about it in here fella:I had last night toffee vodka from Aldi it was amazing.
I was told the best beer for hangovers is the Kristallweizen
On the nights where I switch from beer to gin I always find I'm grateful for it the next day
I think you might be talking about a pint glass there bud. If it's happening you might be a slow drinker so try just getting halves?Just found this beer thread. It's great.
Why do most bars, when you ask for a draught bitter serve it in the widest glass that they have.?
It's my pet hate. The pint always goes flat.
I will swap it for a Carling glass or a tall slim one.
They ( barpersons ) always look at me and nod their head while walking away.
Ilkley Blonde is a particularly nice pint.View attachment 98311View attachment 98312View attachment 98313
This weekends offerings from North Yorkshire :
Wharfedale Blonde 3.9% - Wharfedale Brewery.
Clarendon Pale Ale 3.7% Wensleydale Brewery.
Ilkley Blonde - 3.9% - Ilkley Brewery.
All were excellent, but my pick would be the Ilkley Blonde, which I could’ve drank until it came out of my ears.
( the pub that had the Ilkley on had 13 cask handpulls on and I was the designated driver )

Old pec in wood is a classic
Cheers Ste,As someone who's worked in the industry most of my life off and on, including time in a brewery, I can say with some confidence that may well have been sage advice some years ago but in the highly varied and vibrant beer culture of today is largely irrelevant.
My grandad was a wise soul as well, he was more of the school of thought that you should find things out for yourself rather than stick to the dogmatic beliefs of people who can't get their heads round the fact that the world moves on.
He was also one of the only Liverpool fans I've known that wasn't a raging knobhead and insufferable goon.
I look forward to your contributions in the thread and hope you can expand your palate while adding to the collective body of knowledge.
Cheers.
