It's not even been a week since he had a top five "what the hell was he doing?" defending moment that I've seen all season and we're back to "why isn't he in the England squad?" but I'm the crazy one here.
If he's played a game at CB where he hasn't lost a player in the box as they got a shot away I can't remember it. Yeah no defender is perfect but imo Godfrey is someone who has a lot of physical tools but has a LONG way to go in terms of actual defending at a top level. But because he's a tryer who throws hard tackles in we overlook it.
Honestly it reminds me a bit of Bernard, another player I didn't rate like others did fwiw, in that his effort and ability to do a couple things well overshadowed for lots of people that on the whole he had major flaws in his game.

I too think DCL is our player of the season but Godfrey has been very good.
The thing I do not understand is why you are actually going out of your way to prove to everyone why he is not that good? Its proper weird behavior as I said.
He is not just a trier, that's ridiculous. He is a good player with some small flaws in his game, they are not major flaws.
Yeah some reactions to him are a little OTT but he has been way more good than bad so far during his time here.

Losing players in the box is a major flaw for a CB imo.
I don't think he's been bad but I'm also far from betting on him being our answer at CB longer term. He's not nearly good enough on the ball to play fullback either and he's been a far steadier defender out there. It is what it is.

It's weird because I'm really just not happy to have Everton be mediocre because I really want to see the club do well which in turn because they are really mediocre right now has become me hating them.
I just want to see us do well. Sorry if that means not going crazy over players who I don't rate because they try hard!

Honestly, if they try hard and have some talent then you'd probably better learn to love them. It's going to take a long time to cycle the squad to the point that a player like Godfrey could become surplus to requirements if he doesn't continue to develop his game.
He's not going anywhere for years, if at all.

No one in our squad goes anywhere for years. Besic is here still. Bolasie took forever to go. Delph won't be leaving quickly. I know how that part goes.
I really hope he develops. I'm not saying he doesn't have a lot in his locker. But he isn't there yet at all.

Godfrey shows me where we have to improve. When he’s involved in the game you just have confidence. With the majority of the team we just hope they do well when they have the ball or attempt something. We need improvement all over the park.
