It's not even been a week since he had a top five "what the hell was he doing?" defending moment that I've seen all season and we're back to "why isn't he in the England squad?" but I'm the crazy one here.

If he's played a game at CB where he hasn't lost a player in the box as they got a shot away I can't remember it. Yeah no defender is perfect but imo Godfrey is someone who has a lot of physical tools but has a LONG way to go in terms of actual defending at a top level. But because he's a tryer who throws hard tackles in we overlook it.

Honestly it reminds me a bit of Bernard, another player I didn't rate like others did fwiw, in that his effort and ability to do a couple things well overshadowed for lots of people that on the whole he had major flaws in his game.

I understand what you're saying, and he has some weaknesses. However, he has many other strengths. He will improve his weaknesses over time. It is only his second season in the PL, and he has not exactly played on teams that have dominated the matches. Be a little patient, and I think we may be pleasantly surprised.

Honestly, if they try hard and have some talent then you'd probably better learn to love them. It's going to take a long time to cycle the squad to the point that a player like Godfrey could become surplus to requirements if he doesn't continue to develop his game.

He's not going anywhere for years, if at all.

There's a certain ex Man U mentor who might have a say in that.

Nowhere near as good as a lot of folk on here say. He might well become a top, top player and I like him but he’s got a lot to learn still. Reminds me of how over the top everyone was about John Stones and to a lesser extent, Holgate last season. Positioning, marking, dealing with movement and attacking the ball in the air all need to improve. With games, experience he will hopefully develop these things and become the player we all hope but to read some posts, you’d think he was there already.

Can’t play great every game, but when your midfielder is as porous, and his central partner goes missing, that’s fine.
