Is he supposed to have a strong mentality? He looks flakey and mistakes seem to visibly affect him during games from what I’ve seen, he reminds me a lot of Keane.
I’ve never heard of a side effect of long covid being diminished ability to kick a football to your teammates or stand in the correct place on a football pitch.
His issues are absolutely not related to a lack of pace. He just is an extremely average defender who makes a basic error every match.

No, but that definitely does sound worse than extra-medium covid.
As I said earlier, I’m not defending his deficiencies. However, the COVID affected his heart. He had trouble with breathing and couldn’t sprint. That must have affected every aspect of his game. I’m not sure last season is one to judge him on.
The season before he did well enough as a left back where his pace was useful. He never looked convincing at CB though.

Interesting. I’ve always seen him as one of the few who doesn’t actually drop his head when we go down a goal or he gets beat. Will have to watch him more closely this year. Kind of a make or break season for him I think.
Who will buy them on those wages?? Maybe Brighton, Southampton Bournemouth in Prem could afford Godfrey or Holgate but haven't they got better?

Would you say Martin Keown was a good judge of defensive ability or at least ability to mark opposition forwards?
As he has stated that he rates Godfreys man marking very highly.
Godfrey was also close to the England squad a year ago before he got covid. Had a very good season and then one littered with illness and injuries.
Lets see if hes back to Ancelotti levels this season.

Mina being sold is more pragmatic as he is still a top defender but is injury prone, prioritises National duty and we'll almost certainly lose out on a fee if he doesn't go now. Holgate and Godfrey are not very good at football. Yes they are decent athletes but at most they are cover for defence. Neither are first picks and if they are we're waiting for a mistake. Frank has to be ruthless. Punt them both - maybe if the fee is low enough - say £7/8m for Ben and £3/5m for Mason - all 3 clubs you've mentioned may be interested - in Godfrey at least - and get someone in who can be relied upon - or has potential like the Chelsea lad.
