I found the whole Godfrey thing quite bizare. I sort of sat in silence when he first came as i was listening and reading how good he was. And i thought well it must be me because all i saw was Norwich. I think the season he went down with them they conceded 75 goals. He played most of that season.

Does there come a stage where he is just deemed not good enough? I dunno.
I remember early on his positioning was at fault for a fair few goals and the few who suggested this got absolutely slated. I then like most, did the most Evertonian thing possible and got sucked in by him making big tackles and running fast.

This aside, his positioning is still poor and it just doesn’t seem to be one of those things defenders learn when they reach the top level. It could of course be a product of our managerial merry go round but my guess is that the bloke isn’t all that

Nothing hurts like reality. Were not living in Boris Johnson’s fantasy world, the COVID really affected him.

Can’t believe he’s the only footballer in the world to catch covid. Weird how no one else on the planet gets that excuse made for them, he’s just not a very good player. The fact he can’t pass a ball 5 yards has got nothing to do with the fact he had a cough and a headache 12 months ago.

For all of the guff Keane gets Godfrey was just as expensive. He’s 24 now….to me he needs to be getting better. I know he had COVID related issues, but he really needs to step it up this coming season

Christian Eriksen died, came back to life, came back to the Prem, hit top form and signed for Man United in less time than Godfrey has apparently fully recovered from a virus with a 99% survival ratio, according to some people.

Weird how 200,000 died from COVID in the UK and millions are suffering long COVID.

In elite sport, small differences matter.

He was gasping in quite a lot of games because of it.

COVID effects people differently to be fair

Both can have some truth to them

But please explain how that would affect the basic football skills that he can’t do and has never been able to, like pass a football, mark a striker, or jump to challenge for a header?

It’s “Gomes hurt his ankle and was out for 6 weeks, that’s why he’s been crap for the past 3 years and beyond” all over again.

I’m not trying to defend him from his own deficiencies. However, pace is on thing he does possess, and COVID affected it.
