For me the areas we need to improve (assuming we bring Zouma back) are striker, RB and then LW (or the wing that isn't Richarlison). So that puts him third on the list in my opinion. Certainly not one of the last. Our defense was top 4 level last year so the back 5 and Gana get mostly a pass. Coleman is just getting on in years so he needs at least competition. Most of the focus for improvement needs to come up top.

Exactly. Take Bernard out the team, then see how much Digna contributes. Some folk are so stat obsessed, and/or desperate to prove they are really into football, they seemingly ignore the fact its a team game.

It's not like Bernard isn't being replaced by anyone. I think Digne is good enough to do what he does with most wingers and that means we don't need to pick Bernard every week because Digne needs him.

...absolutely, blend is so important. Pienaar scored 7 in 76 appearances for us, but formed a memorable axis with Baines. I imagine Bernard will end up with similar %.

Main strikers job is to score the majority of goals.........DCL doesn't. Bernard isn't expected to.

The onus is more on the centre forward to score the most goals, that's the way it's always been, the rest chip in.

Yep the top clubs have quality on the bench in most if not all positions.

If Bernard was our backup option from the bench with someone like Neres in the starting 11 its much better than 2 seasons ago having Bolasie and Lookman as our options out wide left.

Well thats just an inane point. Every team needs to look to improve everything, every year. But thats pretty much impossible, so priorities need to be made. "Improving" Bernard is not a priority.

I think Pienaar would be remembered a lot less fondly if Leighton Baines wasn't the best attacking fullback in the world for a 5 year spell. Best player since Rooney's first spell? LOL. He was decent though. Proper 7th place player.
