As I said, 5 of which were over a century ago, the final one pre-WW2

I didn’t see where you said that, but I guess it’s all a matter of perspective. I don’t regard Chelsea to be a big club, but Ivstill see Leeds and Sunderland as big old traditional clubs. In any event, what I think of Sunderland matters little in a discussion about Bill’s merits (or otherwise) as our owner. I give him 6 out of 10.

By outsiders they have though. Just like people are saying West Ham are similar to us now. I'm not trying to be funny, just saying I could see what the poster was suggesting.

No they haven’t....Sunderland fans over the past half century wouldn’t even suggest they were a similar club to us, never mind outsiders.

And the only people who would think Hammers are a similar club to us are teenage FIFA players whom discovered the game a couple of years ago.

I don’t know know how many times those two clubs have been relegated since I was born.

Ok boomer.

Some of us are old enough to remember the dark days of Peter Johnson, when Kenwright took over it was a blessed relief. The real source of our decline was the European ban and the Moore’s family selling no up. Kenwright has treated us like his train set, but none of us really know what has gone on behind the scenes and though he’s a wealthy man he has never had the money to invest properly, hence the Samuelson fiasco and nasty Philip Green.

In the end, I look at clubs like Sunderland and Villa, who were once our equal and realise that some good has come from Kenwright, it could’ve been worse, a lot worse.
He has the money now doesn’t he after selling his stake to Moshiri, but watch him leave the cheque signing duties to the Iranian as he gushes on about his love of the club that’s made him rich as a sultan

I don’t see the argument that we would be Leeds without him.

We came painfully close to the drop several times under him. I don’t recall him investing to avoid the drop, he just closed his eyes and crossed his fingers and hoped for the best.

Everton stayed in the PL in spite of him not because of him.

It’s been run on fumes and remortgages, sold off assets and loans secured on future earnings.

We never looked even close to dropping under Bill, we did come 4th from bottom once but even then we were safe with weeks to go but fell down the table over the last month while the fighters past us.

You don't see it because you don't want to see it.

What else do you suggest he should have done? Invest money that wasn't there? Like Leeds did actually... This line of thinking is mad, it would have doomed us.

When did we come painfully close to the drop under him? (as in when he took over not when he was on the board).

So how much money has Bill got now? Do you know his net worth? What did Moshiri pay and how was it distributed between Kenwright, Woods and Abercrombie?

There’s a very good chance you’ve no idea to any of the above, but it wouldn’t stop you from posting rubbish. While you’re at it, why would a minority shareholder sign any cheques at all? Can you name any single football club where a minor shareholder has signed cheques to fund player purchases?

Are Leeds really that big of a club? They are a club with the potential to be big in terms of support but they have probably spent over half of my life outside the top flight (I'm in my 40s)

Being a big club is a very fluid thing anyway. I mean Chelsea are a big club now, its not a recent thing they have been up there for about 20 years now. I do find that a lot of people judging big clubs seems to be based on where they were in the league table when you were growing up.

Interesting point this, I still think of Notts Forest as a big club but when I was in Primary School and collected football stickers they were, still got a 1980 album, they won the European cup that year!

Forest are an interesting one, they have won the European cup more times than they have won their domestic league. I would say they are big enough to be a top flight team without being massive, they are in the same bracket as Ipswich Town for me, decent sized clubs who had a few years of tremendous success due to great management.

He paid 9m for his initial stake and sold half of it for 22.75m (so 45 is the value) so 500% increase, not bad and a hero into the bargain.

There is an investment opportunity for willing philanthropists at Bramley-Moore if he’s interested..,

Taking inflation and the growth of the game into account that's about right for taking a club from relegation battlers to regular European qualifiers....
