Boxing

Thats the problem, were now a minority sport who gets covered by football journalists only when something big enough is happening, they have no grounding in boxing at all, sky dont help much, halling and watt pick a side and stick with it till the end, ignoring whatever work the other fighter does. I feel for Froch to be honest, he has to defend himself against all sides because the ref stopped it a little early, even though it did look like groves wanted to turn away, but fairs fair, it was early. There was plenty of bad blood before and after, but lets be honest, Froch isn't the only guy in boxing who can't stand groves

Groves started like a train and bossed the early rounds & then the ref certainly stopped it early but as, I think , we both agree and have said Froch was massively on the up . I'd have put my house on Froch at that stage , for me groves chance had gone by then.

Watt was a world champion but he is possibly one of the worst scorers I've ever seen . I won great dough on the haye valuev fight as he had the Russian ahead round by round and obviously punters were backing it on his calls but clearly haye was strolling it , it wasn't pretty but it was clear.

that fight summed watt up entirely, rewarding the man who came forward regardless of getting caught or landing anything, it wasn't so bad when ian darke was alongside him, but nick halling boils my blood, thinks he's a pundit and not a commentator, I'd much rather someone like ed robinson got the gig, solid knowledge has Ed

Darke was always ok . Robinson is decent , used to box For fitroy lodge and worked for a few promoters back in the day as well , liked him on the ringside podcast he's now a roving boxing reporter for sky

yeah even though he had to put up with spencer fearon, he's got a great knowledge of boxing has spencer and can recite fights I've long forgotten, but hasn't the first clue how to articulate it. I like the way ed presents, doesn't big up his own opinion, but when he has to give it, hes got a very solid knowledge, I think he has the style to make a decent commentator, with a good pundit alongside him

Yep Spencer knows everything about boxing history but he's a weapon !

Interesting what you say about poor commentry influencing people, I've watched a few fights online with no commentry at all recently and when talking to people the next day, I feel like I've watched a different fight, I need to pay more attention to in action betting!

There is definitely money to be earned in it . I used to have an ex that was cabin crew but loved boxing and we'd go to title fights , if she was away or i went the fights she's want round by round scores and either way I'd always be at odds with the tv it seemed (which usually means the bookies ) . Not always but you usually get 2 out the 3 judges , even when judges get hammered by the media I often think they aren't 'that' far away .

Good luck fella

Watt is absolutely terrible. I can't think of a sports pundit I dislike more, and that includes the myriad of Kopites on telly.

Watt's worst moment was during the Benn/McLellan fight, when he was announcing 'there's nothing wrong with him Reg, he just doesn't fancy it anymore'.. McLellan was struggling and blinking heavily, and was clearly in distress.

Having said that, I don't mind him, and I do like Ian Darke - he's not a great football commentator mind!

Good interview with Froch this morning on TS.

Looks like the fight will happen, says Groves was offered big money to fight again, but now it is a mandatory he is only entitled to 15% of the purse.

Froch seems up for it, despite it not being the fight he wanted next.

Groves was coming on to retort, but I missed his say on things.

I felt the fight would happen before the IBF decision, even more so now

Chisora fighting Kevin Johnson, be an interesting one that, say what you will about Del, but he will literally fight anyone without giving a single [Poor language removed], tyson fury being fed another chump though

He gave Klitchko a decent workout. Bit more in the tank and it'd have been a lot closer. Still a poor boxer but most are these days.

I don't understand why they aren't getting a decent domestic round-robin thing happening. Worked for bums like williams, sprott, francis and the likes.

it did mate, and the current group would be more exciting, see the haye-chisora fight, fury haye would have been fun, even when del boy and fury fought,it was enjoyable watching two out of shape whoppers go at it. The standard isnt great, but it could still be entertaining if they got these fights on, after years of the klitchko's tedium, I 'd take a drop in standard for a rise in entertainment
