Mate i think we have a fair few defenders now:

Jags
Stones
Galloway
Browning
Mori
Holgate
Foulds
Pennington

Each with games under their belt...

Defensive midfield
Barry - how long left?
Mccarthy
Besic
Ledson?

Think we have more space in defensive mid.

Agree. Though not with the OP about getting rid of Barry (yet). He's been superb this season and fans need to understand he plays a really important role for us. But we have plenty of centre mids. Not many defenders, keep Galloway at the back.

I always thought McCarthy was there to go to the man with the ball ans Barry was meant to be covering the full back...especially Galloway as hes on the left.

He got isolated by the lack of defensive cover from Kone or Barry. It is noticeable that both our holding mid's don't like to get over and help the full back. Galloway was up against payet and moses sometimes, but it was noticeable Barry tracked over more second half.

Cleverley and Barkley are both much better suited to play in central midfield, while Gibson is still here atm.

Galloway, for me, hasn't got the range of passing or vision to be a DM, and to be honest there's no need for him to be shifted there. Develop him as a defender.

I think it will be McCarthy/Besic competing for one spot and Cleverley/Barkley the other soon.

However hes playing 2 DMs as we have no one else to play behind Lukaku only barkley and cant be moved yet.

Sigh - Fitness worry for our Brendan.

Plenty of time for him to be fully fit in a 12 days time

By the way this is not a criticism of the lad but Baines return to fitness is coming at a good time I think.
At the beginning of the season Galloway probably had a target of maybe 15/20 games this season. Which he has pretty much done (will do).
It may do him good to take abit of a breather over the next month or 2 and just be used here and there (similar to how Browning has been used), give him a chance to recharge his battery's and be ready for the final 3rd of the season and hopefully an FA cup run

Plus with the opposition we have coming up I think an attacking full back would benefit the team more!

As said this is not a criticism, the lad has done brilliant, is pure sex, and is going to be ace!

While he has been fantastic, we (and he) really do need Baines back for a while.
Not only would it give him some time out of the firing line now the the opposition have started to overload him, it means he can get some proper extended coaching to improve him so as build on what he's shown up to now.
Generally with young players they should be in and out of the side as it gives them a chance to learn as well as a chance to play. Playing all the time can lead to problems (like the ones he's currently facing). It needs to be a balanced introduction to the side to bring about the best long term benefit. Of course with injuries he's had to be thrown in and he's has been great. I just get the sense that he's starting to get a bit ground down by being picked on as a weakness which isn't really fair on the lad.
With Baines back hopefully soon, he'll get a chance to drop back, review some footage, work out what he can do to improve and strengthen his game some more. It's unfortunately something that's incredibly difficult to do in the grinding cycle of recovering from, and preparing for games.

As a lot are saying, a rest will do the lad a world of good. He's been superb and has proved he is going to be a quality defender. But he's 19, and we've got the best left back in the league coming back into the first team fold.
