Galloway does get forward well, but his attacking positioning is poor compared to Baines and Oviedo (naturally). When Oviedo was on he gave us real width in the attack. A lot of times Galloway gets forward, but he's pretty much in the box. Not a problem if we have a winger out wide, but we had Kone in that position and no option to spread it wide.
As it was, Sunderland are turd and we played through them, but against better teams you can't do that and we have to learn to go wide. I've got no complaints about Galloway at all, but Baines does give us that nous going forward that Oviedo showed as well. When we have inside forwards, as it were - which Kone and Mirallas both are when they play on the left - we really need our full-back to stay wide for as long as possible if the aim is to get a cross in.
Think you have explained Martinez's reasoning to play Oviedo on Sunday perfectly there pal!
None of this is a criticism towards Galloway as he is going to be a centre back!
Although, lets say we keep our young players for next 3-4 seasons, with barry and jags retiring!
Would anyone consider Galloway in that barry position? with Funes Mori and Stones at centre back
