Brendan Galloway

Oh absolutely. English football could go another 50 years and it won't see a 16 year old of the quality of Rooney, he was that good.

I think by comparing Galloway to Rooney though shows just how highly I rate him. When I am evaluating him I am measuring him to the very best young players I've seen at his age.

Ok here is probably a more similar comparison.
Brendan Galloway to Michael Ball?

I love Sturridge's reaction.

I think that the reaction here by Sturridge shows in a few short seconds exactly what is up with him. If you look at how he goes over, it looks like its a bit twisted at the knee, his initial reaction is that he thinks he's going to be injured. This is his issue for me, its all mental. He seems to signal that he's injured, even though there is nothing wrong with him.

Once a player has that in his head, call the insurance brokers, they're done.

Yes I was thinking of how similar he was to Micheal Ball the other day to be honest.

He has the same composure as Ball had, comfortable in possession and quite quick. They are very alike.

Remember that season when we had to give our Young Player of the Year award to Vellios because we didn't have anyone else under 25 who'd made a first team appearance? Just funny how things change isn't it

Did that genuinely happen?

Were was Rodwell, Vaughan & Victor at the time?

The shouts that it's like looking at John Stones are very good.

When Stones first came in he was a bit hesitant too. Eventually he began to hold his own, the game against Stoke away was a big turning point for him. Galloway had his against Chelsea, a match where you could see he had turned a big corner.

Just like Stones the biggest attribute I can see with Galloway is whats going in between his ears. He isn't fazed by whats happening around him, keeps very level headed and has a good appreciation of what his abilities are and how he can maximise them.

Much like with Stones I wasn't blown away with Galloway when I saw him for the reserves, but Unsworth spoke very highly of him. It's obviously the above qualities of his mentality that comes shining through when you work with him so closely, which was similar again with Stones.

I am not saying this to try and be hard on him. But at 19 he doesn't have the all-round ability of a Rooney, or even the physique of a Barkley/Rodwell when they emerged, nor the raw pace of say someone like an Owen. But I have seen enough of his mentality to know he will do very well in the game.

If you compare him to Gomez at Liverpool the mentality he has is the key difference. Gomez has a lot going for him, he is probably quicker than Galloway and also a bit taller. However he has been fazed by the big occasions and given away a number of silly fouls/penalties which have been as a result of his poor mentality. Galloway doesn't seem to make those mistakes. I think this is down to the lads calmness.

Very impressed with him in the derby. The way he stood between Sakho/Can and stopped them getting to Barkley was very brave and had a real presence about him.

As for the 50 games stuff, I think this was before Martinez has seen him this season when he was thinking of sending him out on loan to get say 30+ games. I think he has skipped that step. He will soon be at 15-20 first team appearances for us by the Baines returns. I suspect that may be enough for Martinez to consider him as a potential Centre Half.

Fantastic development of our young defenders is going on really. That we might have a back four of Browning, Stones, Galloway, Garbutt in a couple of years will be very strong, with lads like Mori also knocking on the door.

Very good post but about the last paragraph - I hope that is never our first choice back 4! Browning is never a RB, and I'm not jumping to any conclusions with him as a CB either.

Mori is streets ahead of him, think it's a bit unfair to say he will be 'knocking on the door' when he'll be like 26, not to mention we paid £9.5m!

I think Browning can cut it at the Premier League level. He's still young, just slightly less so than Galloway.

galloway stones browning would be a lovely threee at the back should we ever want to do it..all ball players and centre backs

We've barely seen Browning mate, it's far too early to tell. He's held his own like, but he's gonna have to be brilliant to be favoured over Galloway as a CB in the future, and Mori is ahead of him in the pecking order.

If Stones is still here in 2 years time, I envisage a Stones, Mori, Galloway back 3. Mori is obviously intended to be first choice in the future but Galloway will be too good to leave out.
