2020/21 Carlo Ancelotti

This series of results is happening at just the right time in terms of the summer transfer market. Nobody at the club is under any illusions of what's required now. Had Carlo somehow worked the oracle and had these guys gunning for the top six, there might have been a tendency to hold back, but that's not a serious option now. The evidence before our eyes is that either the most decorated manager in modern football is not up to it or a core of failed players who have successfully ensured the sackings of three previous managers are the problem. The only player in that squad who has had a career that could even remotely be compared to Ancelotti's is James - and he brought him here specifically.

These players have never been good enough for the lofty aims of top four or even top six. Those paying attention have always known that. The challenge for the club is to give the manager players who are. Then we'll start to properly go places.
We kinda heard it for the last 5 years...

Top clubs wouldn’t touch Ancelotti with a barge pole these days but some people think he’s still this world class manager.

He’s perhaps going to finish lower than Koeman, Allardyce and Silva for the second season. The football is as bad as we’ve seen and we’re not going to be getting Europe.

He’s failed and we could literally bring in most managers in this league and they would have us in and around mid table.
Yes he’s failed . Been here two minutes with the rubbish squad he’s been left with . And hasn’t won us the double . Shame on him

Why is it never the players fault?

I'm more making the point that Ancelotti can make a player, if they want to be coached. Calvert-Lewin, Keane etc are flourishing. But as seen under 4 managers, you can't polish some turds. Sigurdsson, Gomes and Davies (who i'd keep around as a squad player) will never be the central midfield of a side looking to progress, let alone push for Europe. They're the epitome of what is wrong with Everton for the past 25 years.... alright, but not winners.

They don't have the hunger (or in Davies case, the quality, sadly), to step up when it matters. Until they go (and he's had one window, fgs), then the reality is, Ancelotti cannot be judged.

The fact we're even in European contention, with a load of garbage for a squad (one we've spent £500m on, btw), is more a minor miracle. Whilst the home form has been dire, it's a freak season, which i'm certain will flip flop back to normal next season.

But quick one mate, when is it Sigurdsson fault, when he's been through 5 managers, and still can't be motivated?

I think people forget that the best teams in this division, are amongst the elite of world football.

The reality is, Carlo inherited a lengthy list of players who never have been and/or never will be, anything near elite level.

Gylfi, Tom, Iwobi and Bernard, wouldn't even get on the benches of the best teams in this division.

Gomes probably needs to go to Serie A or something. Good player, but not cut out for this league.

Coleman has had his best years.

We've also handicapped Carlo somewhat by still paying close to 150k a week for the pleasure of letting Bolasie, Walcott, and Tosun play for somebody else.

Not to mention the wages spent on Delph, Besic and Gbamin.

It's almost like a massive part of our player budget is being wasted week after week.

Another person I have to ask.

What are you expecting from Ancelotti mate? Did you think at the start of the season we'd end up in the top 4? He's had one transfer window, in which he's brought in 4 excellent players to improve the team, but we're decimated with injuries so we have to play the same dross we've had to endure for the last 3 seasons?

The reality is, until he can get rid of the garbage, you aren't going to see improvements. But no... lets all write off multiple trophy winning, top respected manager, because he can turn water into wine.... or in our case win games when he has 2 goalkeepers, and 4 youth players on the bench.

He’s been here 16 months, that’s a funny 2 minutes. So we shouldn’t be expecting anything better than this? Rodgers and Moyes both had bigger impacts at their respective clubs.

He’s brought in 7 players since the summer and shipped out one of PSG’s top goal scorers because he couldn’t be arsed developing young players.

Who asked for the double? We asked for Europa, hardly asking for the world, is it? It’s the minimum West Ham and Leicester will be getting. I guess we shouldn’t be expecting to compete with them, by your book?

Ancelotti out.

It's bizarre looking back at your posts about Ancelloti and this team in July/August.

9 months you've gone from 'If Ancelloti can't do it no-one can win us anything' and 'we shouldn't expect too much too soon' to spending days moaning in this thread about the man and how we need instant success

Actualy surprised we are even on 48 points.
Cant stress enough how proper bland and mediocre so many of our players are. Esp midfield. But most have stunk the place out for a few years now so im not sure where the expectation came from. We vastly over rate our squad. 48 points is near the mark of realisation.
So much dead wood needs moving on.

I was expecting him to deliver on his European objective.

He’s brought in 7 players and shipped out one of PSG’s top scorers.

You can’t sign players like James and then cry they’re injured. We knew he’d miss a lot of games.

I see, he should only be expected
to perform when he has a team comparable to those at prime AC Milan or Real.

He hasnt had long and let's face it some of the rubbish we have playing for us you would need to be a miracle worker to get a tune out of.
It's a big summer for him , getting in some quality players with some athleticism and skill/passion.
This season he has to answer for the dire football , and not being able to motivate the players when it counts , every time we have been in a position to go forwards we have failed .
Season is over, we look a stale team going through the motions and have done for months , he has to take some of the blame for that.

No manager in there right mind would touch us if we sack yet another manager and especially being Carlo. Its a miracle we have him. Thank god its not up to these kopites and Carlo will leave when he bloody well pleases.

That was before he I knew just how dreadful the football would be under him.
